Looking at an 03,but I am slightly concerned about going to the 6.0L. What did you think about it. I am getting crew cab for the room for my expanding family. Any major concerns with any part of the truck?

I owned an 02 for 8 years. I miss that engine sometimes, but I don't miss the gas mileage.

ETA- It was a very solid truck for me. The brake booster developed a leak - that's the only maintenance issue I ever had. In fact my Dad still owns the truck today.

I own an 05 1500hd. Still going strong with no major issues to date. I really like the 6.0 stock it is strong, but with a tune it can woken up quite a bit. Tranny is solid. Gas mileage is crappy but not much you can do when you basically have a 3/4 ton with a gas motor. I get anywhere from 12-16 mpg. When towing it will go down depending on the load. If you have any specific questions let me know.

I had a friend in high school who had one. Was a great truck if I am remembering correctly. He beat the crap outta it and it kept on ticking. He got it with high miles and put a lot more with no major problems.

had a 03 2500 HD with the 6.0, that i just got rid of in July. Never put it in the shop the 7 years i had it. Never had a problem pulling anything with it either. Gas mileage is crap.

I have a gmc 1500hd 2002. so pretty much the same thing
I like the room, and it is one damn reliable truck. Only thing that has been changed is tires and oil. But before I owned it, it was a government vehicel out on Fort Benning, and every 5000 miles had a full check up. So was kept in good condition.
Set back though, gas mileage is terrible. Your pretty much getting a 2500 with a 1500 body. Thats the only difference.
Space is great though.

That is a bulletproof motor. I would venture to say it is one of the best gas burners ever put in a chevrolet truck. The gas mileage will be piss poor, but it will pull a house and last a really long time.

Thank you guys... here is the link to the site... check it out.... I went and drove it yesterday... I can definitely tell a difference in the gearing.

I am used to a 2002 GMC 1500 with the 5.3L

If you're going to do some pulling, that is an excellent truck.

I looked at one but the dealer would not budge on price, yet would not give me bluebook for trade. Needed it for towing the 5er. Really wish they would make something like this again, but in ext cab instead of quad cab. Don't want a 3/4 ton, but would like the extra capacity.

I have an '01 with 186K miles and have never had an issue with the motor. normal maintenence is about all I have done. fuel gauge went out last year but they want $1000 to fix it so i just have to watch miles traveled for next fill up. great truck, pulls about anything you will need and great motor. Good Luck.

$20k for a vehicle with 100k miles seems like alot of money. First thing I'd do is find out if it has a timing chain or belt.
