Meanwhile, what does OU do next (w/Mizzou to SEC)?

Saw this on OU's landthieves board. Interesting, so thought I'd share it here (I love how it leaves bevo out of the action):

quote:

Now we [OU] make our move.

OU/OSU/KU/ISU to PAC. Put that in a document from the PAC offices on Power's desk.

That dissolves the conference, and leaves UT with Tech, Baylor, and Kstate.

At which point, UT has 5 options, and has to make a decision quick.
1. Drop the LHN and join the PAC
2. Drop the LHN and join the Big 10
3. Drop the LHN and join the SEC
4. Keep the LHN and add whomever bottom feeders they want into a new SWC
5. Keep the LHN and go independent in football, and beg the WAC or Sun Belt to take their basketball and other sports.

Only options 1&2 are good options.

PAC isn't expanding without Texas. OU/OSU can add whoever they want to that. (BTW they would much rather add Tech to that, not ISU.) OU is stuck right now whether they like it or not.

OU is stuck by their own choosing. They have many options that they don't seem to want.

You may be right - but it's interesting to see how OU hates bevo, too, and resents being tied to bevo thus far

I heard on TV that OU turned down the SEC last summer. Is that true. Was the SEC willing to bring Oklahoma State along with OU???

I don't know. I think Oklahoma is one of the crown jewels and one of the few schools that would be a home-run in this process.

If Missouri really is a done-deal, then we are running out of slots.

I'm with those who believe that the PAC will not take OSU or TT without TX. OK and KU or MO might be able to go, but that's about it.

From my recollection, the story is that the SEC was willing to take A&M and OU, but not if it meant Okie State as a 15th team.

OU was unwilling to make a move without Okie State, so they started beating the bushes at the Pac Ten and Big Ten about them coming in as a package deal.

No, they werent. A&M and OU were there in the west as the top targets but OU wasn't going anywhere without ok state and didn't want the SEC in the first place. Enter mizzou.

OU aint doing shite - this re-alignment is about done for now. Mizzou was the last shoe to drop (or not) this year

Regardless if Mizzou stays or goes, the conference is not breaking up. It may be held together with scotch tape and bubble gum, and filled with cow shite, but it's going to survive this.

If Mizzou stays, the big12 goes one of two ways....either it adds one more and stops at 10, or it adds 3 more schools to get back up to 12. Right now, I'd venture to say that it's about 50/50 on which direction they go

However, if Mizzou (likely) leaves, the conference will react with the rapid addition of 4 teams to bring it back up to 12.

Not in any way to infer that Mizzou is somehow the lynch-pin in all this, but rather the threshold that will scare the remaining members to react quickly as they will likely feel the pressure to get back up to par sooner rather than later. There's a sense that a 10 team conference with Mizzou is plausible, however without them, the only recourse to offset them is to add 4 teams.

Oklahoma really wants to goto the PAC12 but the Pac12 only wants Texas and will take Oklahoma only if Texas joins.

The SEC really wants Oklahoma but Oklahoma doesn't want to go to the SEC. It is not clear either whether the SEC will also take Oklahoma State because they are a package deal due to Okalahoma politics.

It is up to Oklahoma now as to what they want because other than the above scenario, the only option they have is to keep the Big 12 together.

Maybe my math is off, but wouldn't Option 1 leave the PAC with 17 teams?

those are not options at all.

1. not happening. PAC already shot them down.
2. The Big 10 is not going to take Okie Lite. GTFO
3. Boren doesn't want the SEC.

Thanks to Boren putting all of his eggs in the PAC and refusing to entertain the SEC-it seems that right now they are stuck with option 4.

Not that it makes a difference in the outcomes, but, I don't think it's quite accurate to say that the Pac 12 wanted Oklahoma only if Texas came along. In the end, it seems to be the case that the Pac 12 didn't want to go to 14, regardless of which schools were involved, as that would have opened up the entire can of worms regarding who gets to play the SoCal schools regularly without providing an obvious answer. On the other hand, get to 16 (with OU, OSU, Texas, and Tech), and, given the money involved as a sweetener, the pod system would have been all but inevitable and an easier sell to the current Pac 12 membership.

No one really knows IMO - but I would be very surprised if Slive didn't at least inquire about adding OU/OkSt/Texas/A&M

Ok State is obviously the least desirable of the four but pretty easy to accept given the financial power of the other three schools

Sooners embarrassed

The article is a few weeks old, but hit the nail on the head about the OU situation.

quote:

The embarrassing news for Oklahoma late Tuesday night was the Pac-12 didn't want the Sooners-Oklahoma State two-team package. Texas had to be involved. That's why it's very difficult at the moment to take a deep breath in Norman.

Exactly what the Aggies and Nebraska wanted to escape -- being tied to DeLoss' shoestrings -- that's where Oklahoma still finds itself.

Meanwhile, the word was already out that the Sooners had no desire for an SEC move because the school is attempting to raise its academic and football honesty image. One SEC official did say Wednesday that the conference had "issues" with considering the Sooners as a 14th team.

quote:

When Oklahoma stepped out there the last two weeks with some strong words, it opened deeper wounds. Plus, the Sooners learned a valuable lesson:

Don't talk tough unless you have guaranteed options. (See the Aggies.)

Because USC (and now Oregon) would totally facilitate this.

It's starting to look like Sooner being picky will come back to haunt them.
