Me and my buddy's are going deep sea fishing out of Venice, LA and was wondering how much we should tip the captain/crew? Lets say they put us on some fish, clean and bag the meat for us! Is their a rule of thumb for how much to tip? I am looking for a number!

Depends on how your fishing trip goes....and how much you like what they did

I had a trip with 6 customers (myself included) in which we went out of Grand Isle for a rig trip with the captain and 1 deck hand. I believe it was $1200.00 plus gas and tip. We tipped the deck hand a little over $20.00 each which the captain advised was the going rate plus or minus depending on service and how the trip went.

That seems awfully low......

Depends on the trip...a neighbor of mine went with Wetzel DURING snapper season and they spent all day looking for bait, then made a long run to mars in that slow arse boat, caught 1 blackfin, then came back in and couldn't find the snapper after a few tries and headed in....I would have told the captain, "you can tip the deckhand out of what we paid you..I'm not tipping shite"

$40 bucks per person. Regardless if yall slam the fish. The captain and deckhand still are working their butts off to put you on the fish. There should be no reason to not get a limit of snapper during snapper season, but sometimes tuna fishing they just will not cooperate.
Usually they will charge by the pound to clean your fish.

We just went out of Cocodrie, and they put us on some tuna and cobia. We were pretty pleased, however it was just the captain, no deck hand (short notice). I think we tipped him around $150? If I remember correctly.

We just went and tipped 20% of the trip cost not including fuel/dock fees. about $250. between 6 people, thats not too bad.

just like a restaurant.
10% if bad service.
20% is good service.
They are still working.
