Dana Holgerson/Lack of Pressure/Giving up huge yards.

After re-watching the game last night, some in slow motion for clarity here is my take.
Dana Holgerson:
This guy is a real piece of work. His attitude toward our players was something I have never seen. Him calling our player a "Motherfrikkin Piece of shite" was competely unprofessional and uncalled for. I think this was the game that he, and the rest of WV, had taken as their coming out party, and it didn't go the way he'd hoped. I think he will claim LSU faked injuries to slow down the pace of the game, and that's why they lost...which is BS. IMO he treated everyone, including his own players, like they were garbage, and stupid...almost inferior. I predict that in the next 3 years he will be jobless because of some incident involving his temper. IE Woody Hayes from Ohio State.
Lack of Pressure:
I was really concerned with the lack of pressure on Geno Smith, so I paid particular attention to this aspect of the game when I watched again. Typically, when a team is in a pass play, the offensive line-man start to back peddle when the wall is snapped. Usually they back up about 3 or 4 yards. The WV O-line was backing up 6 to 7 yards, as was Geno Smith. The LSU defensive line didn't make contact with the WV offensive line until 5 to 7 yards from the line of scrimmage. Yes, as someone suggested earlier in the week, we were moving the offensive line, but WV knew it too, so they willingly moved the O line. Pretty smart if you ask me.
Also, Chavis stopped blitzing once he realized WV would not hold the ball long enough to get pressure on him. He just dropped everyone into coverage and tried to keep everything in front of them.
Lastly, WV was holding a lot. They were also cut blocking quite a bit.
Giving up huge yards:
I don't know if anyone remembers, but Troy threw the ball on LSU 72 times a few years ago. WV threw the ball 62 times. I don't care how good your defense is, there's no way to cover 5 WR's and 1 RB for very long. And with the scheme WV was employing with their offensive line, we just had to limit the long plays, which LSU did. I am not disappointed in the yards that LSU gave up, and it will skew our defensive numbers, but they played WV about as good as could be expected.
LSU missed a ton of tackles. It seems to me they are going for the big hit, and taking bad angles, IMO a clear sign of youth. As they mature, those missed tackles will become less.
Just my opinion.

Wrong that isn't nearly what he said.

Dana Holgerson show as little class as I have ever seen in a game. He looked and acted like a low class hillbilly. (sorry to the hillbillies-most of you are better). If I was the WV U, I'd be embarrassed. It was like a 3rd grader blaming everyone for everything.

Wow ... WVU's OL can backpeddle faster than LSU's DL can move forward? And all this time I was led to believe that our DL was fast.

All you have to do is glance at his balding mullet to know he is a real piece of work. Not to mention his multiple alcohol related arrests and the way he got the job. But then when did he call our player names?

LSU missed a ton of tackles.
If they had actually tackled, WVU wouldn't have put up nearly that many yards. It's hard to throw it THAT many times and win. Too many things have to go right to sustain scoring drives like that.
I did notice WVU hold a few times during pass protection and it pissed me off, but oh well. We beat their arse

Dana Holgerson is an unprofessional piece of shite. He runs a gimmick offense and if your offense is ruined by injuries as you claim, you need to change your scheme. And yes, running a constant hurry up offense is more likely to get defensive players injured.
The lack of pressure was very concerning to me imo. WV picked up our blitzes very well and gave Geno Smith years to throw. Granted, WV got away with holding plenty times, I think Chavis made the proper adjustment and gave up the short yards, but didn't allow many big plays.
I don't care about the yards given up. When you have a punter that pins them inside the 10 yard line almost every time, and you're playing a good offense, you're going give up lots of yards. The most important part is points. LSU did not allow a WV score in the 4th quarter.

I thought the same thing, this dude is going to hit a ref or a player before he's done coaching, looks like he didn't learn too much from Leach

I thought he said, "MF. This is bullshite "

Dana Holgerson was frustrated. HIs team was doing everything he coached them to, except punting the football, and they were getting beaten soundly. He was upset with the referees, LSU's players and his own players throughout the game.
As far as the lack of pressure, LSU dropped 7 men into pass coverage once it became apparent that the referees were not going to call holding which would increase the chances of giving up big plays without really increasing the pressure on the QB. West Virginia is very fortunate that LSU's DB's and LB's dropped at least 4 balls that hit them in the hands. The scheme worked for LSU, but the execution was somewhat disappointing due to some missed tackles.

He really is a piece of work, would not want to play for that guy..
In Jim's pregame phone call interview with DH, he lobbed him a softball to hype up Geno Smith a little bit, he said he's OK, he would be better if he would trust the scheme...blah blah, just wasn't very complimentary of him...
After listening to that it kind of struck me as odd, after watching that a-hole on the sideline it makes perfect sense

What makes covering 62 passes even more difficult is avoiding pass interference calls - aka easy yardage. Did we have any called on us? Awesome feat of discipline and patience. Pass will be completed - the goal becomes stopping them from scoring. And that is what we did. Yardage be damned - we won!!

Watched it again last night... pretty sure he said "f@ckin' p@ssy @ss m@ther f@ckers" after the K. Adams hit on Smith. That's what I saw, anyway
