Realistically, how bad are the WVU fans?

The closer we get to the game/trip, the more I'm hearing from people to "be extra careful." I've been to every SEC stadium, and while every school has its share of idiots, I've never had any real problem.
Been/am looking forward to this trip for a while. Nothing said is going to change my plans, I'm just curious as to what to expect. Are the fans really that bad? Or is it more along the lines of LSU's flaming bags of piss tossed on missionary grandmas emerging from a tipped over porta potty?

That is a good question. Are they bama/Florida bad or more Ole Myth/Ar-kansas lots of mouth with no bite?

more like this, try and stay away from students, as with any venue and youll be fine, the majority of the fans will be welcoming and will razz you a bit but nothing insane. there is always a jackass in every bunch though so i cant tell you not to expect running into one, although i would say its way more unlikely if you stay away from student areas, which would be the massive apartment complex off to the side of the stadium

Some are pretty bad, others are pretty cool. Like LSU and Louisiana, they have a lot of insecurity issues and "us against the world" mantra, but they take it a little farther. If you look down upon them they'll be rude back. If not, it will be okay. Like the SEC, OOC foes are treated a little different then the regular visitors.
They also drink a lot but are more likely to be the mean drunk than the charismatic, hilarious Louisiana drunk.
The hardcores love their 'Eers as much as anyone can love anything.
That's my broad brush. I've been to three games there so that's my little experience. Great place for college football.

I wouldn't be yelling any of that SEC SEC shite after the game.
I've been reading their boards for the last week, and many posters are worried about their fans. One said they have a chip on their shoulder because the SEC rejected their membership.

I've been there three times.
My first was when I was working for the Marshall Athletic Dept. As we were walking into the stadium (down the hill from the law school) my boss got pegged with a fully loaded hot dog. I didn't like him anyway.
Other than that I've seen two fights. Both were WVU on WVU. It's really not that bad and the whole thing is overblowin IMHO.
However, don't talk any shite because in my experience West Virginians as a whole are pretty sensitive.

i think the wvu fans are some of the best around. think blue collar workers who love their team (ala steelers).

I have heard numerous stories from people I trust to the effect that locals in Morgantown, not likely associated with WVU, take games like this as an opportunity to get drunk and way more obnoxiously confrontational than is the norm in even the most hostile SEC game day environment. I think the cautions should be taken seriously.

I went to the WVU vs Cinn. game last year. That game was pretty laid back. The fans were terrible. Rooting for your team and jabbing at its fans are one thing but when you cuss and throw stuff at the other teams fans is another. The police did step in after a while and escorted some of the more obnoxious ones out. That was after three quarters of banter.

When you guys played at Va. Tech several years ago, we had a great time with your fans. We invited alot of LSU fans to our tailgate. However, some LSU fans went through the alumni parking lots yelling "Tiger Bait". We took it as just as good humor ribbing. One word of caution, do not do that at Morgantown! West Va. has some of the best fans in the country but again, do not harass them.

I do know that before and after the oregon game they claimed to be on another level compared to the rest of the country. But then on here so many oregon fans complained about us after the game.
But i have a feeling that wvu fans are a lot closer to the sec fan bases.

Can't be worse than leaving an Arkansas game in Little Rock. Not ever going back for a game there. I'm leaving for Morgantown in the morning and looking forward to being around their fans and the game.
