Ken Starr's "Cost of Ending Big 12"

Of course, local economies across our state will also suffer the loss of these traditional match-ups.
Of course that was no problem when the SWC folded and Baylor severed its "traditional match-ups" with Rice, TCU, and SMU (UH was the newcomer so there wasn't the long history with it).
Then again, when you purchase less than 600 tickets out of a 3,850 ticket allotment, for a school less than two hours away, how much "economic stimulus" are you really doing?

I don't even want the SEC to expand, but when I see crap like that written by a Baylor representative it just turns my stomach a bit knowing how they sold out the other Texas schools (Rice, SMU, TCU, and Houston) during the Big XII's formation.

Ken Starr, speak plainly! This is about pure self-interest. Your overwrought editorials deny the truth that everyone knows, and make you like mendacious and your Baptist University look hypocritical.

Yeah, not having all 4 Texas schools in the same conference would be the end of the world.
Baylor just wants their Big 12 payday. They don't give a shite about TCU, SMU, Houston, Rice or anyone else but Baylor.

He doesn't want to look at it that way... he wants you to only pay attention to the A&M and UT fans who buy 30,000 tickets to watch their school beat up the Bears.
Looking at it from the perspective of how much Baylor brings to UT or A&M vs. the other way around destroys his argument.

Not if he really believes the bunk that Perryman publishes.

I am not big on the expansion deal, but understand the SEC has to keep up and the others are looking to do it soon. So as a LSU fan I think Texas A&M is a good choice for personal reasons. Having watched the series as a kid it will be nice to see it renewed.

Starr is out of his mind. He needs to be thinking about $ right now.
He needs to get guaranteed OOC games set up with Texas, Tech and A&M. 2 "home & aways" from each per decade for the next 50 years.
Then, he needs to get his political heavies working on the Big East.
He better do this quick before he is out of options.

isn't that all he has been thinking about from the get go? he doesn't give a shite about the other texas schools or texas in general. It has always been about the money Baylor gets from the Big 12 and nothing else.

I agree with you on this one.
A guaranteed series with A&M was one of the possible ways out I saw on a Baylor lawsuit a ways back, but wasn't sure if either side would agree to it, in part because A&M is already losing a home game every two years to the JerryWorld game with Arky.

there must be something in the water in waco. seems as if they have run out of statistical integrity. that company up there that "proved" the economy would collapse if we ran all illegals out and now starrs estimates of damages. so far over the top that he has to be impuning his and his schools integrity. he thinks he's holding aces but he's not. yes, he has slowed things down but all precedent is that a college has a right to move conferences. just ask va. tech, miami, boston college and others (not to mention colorado and nebraska). in past dealings, ken starr has proven evidence and precedent and other cornerstones of our legal system are not his concern. i sincerely hope he gets what he deserves.

I don't know if anyone could have prevented Baylor's demise but Starr knows that the Bears being permanently marginalized in college sports will be his legacy. It will doom him from getting a more high profile university presidency and the Baylor boosters will want him out.

Guess Starr will have to go back to investigating blowjobs...

A&M-Baylor is probably finished after all this mess came down. Plus Baylor purchased less than 600 tickets for a road game less than two hours away? SMU bought more tickets than that.

This - for the first time I have to agree with Dr Drunken

The funny thing is that I could have seen us continuing to play Baylor once we joined the SEC. The series goes back to 1899. It's only 90 miles between the two schools. I thought that we could do a two or three for one and even our road game in Waco would really be a home game.
Now, frick them. Let them join Conference USA and play Sam Houston or Lamar out of conference.

Starr screwed up big time. I could have easily seen A&M continuing the Baylor game as an OOC but after all of this nonsense its going to be 15-20 years before we even consider playing them again.
I doubt the Big East would take them b/c there are surely schools that have talked about leaving who would not want to deal with potential lawsuits.
Also, Starr nukes his own argument b/c if Baylor was really that concerned about Texas football teams playing each other he would be trying to get into Conference USA so he could play SMU, Rice, Houston, and UTEP every year.

What's funny about this is it completely undermines Starr's assertion that Texas schools need to be in the same conference in order to preserve "Texas football". Baylor hasn't been in the same conference with TCU since Baylor was the first Texas school to secede from the SWC.
And TCU is allegedly completely against Baylor following them into the Big East because they are still pissed at how Baylor threw them under the bus to punch their ticket to the Big 12.
IMHO, the Big 12 would have been far better off with TCU than Baylor's sorry arse 18 conference wins. Baylor got into the Big 12 (and kept A&M from bolting to the SEC at the time) for one reason and one reason only: politics.
I fully support A&M in their quest to GTFO that hostage situation and join us in the SEC. No one school or state dominates this conference and we sure as shite won't for one second let Texans think they own this conference.
