If you attended and graduated from a university, you are no more a "bigger fan" (not really sure what that means anyway...do you have a bigger tailgate? I dunno) BUT you do have more invested. And I don't neccessairly mean monetarily, though that could be true as well. 'Sweat equity' is more what I am thinking of.
And as for me..born and raised in Arkansas. Went to LSU and graduated. No family connection to LSU at all. Grew up watching them when ESPN first started showing college football games. Just worked out that I went to school and graduated from there. I root for them over everybody and attend as many games as I can since I live in Arkansas now. I esp. enjoy it when they beat the Razorbacks.

I have no problem with this. The same way I have no problem thinking it's ridiculous that every middle-aged white woman in the state of LA are all of a sudden, dyed in the wool Saints fans.
Not the best analogy, I know... but I do think people who have attnended the school should naturally feel a bi lt more associated.
I understand what you're saying, but I do get tired of people giving me shite for screaming so hard at LSU games that my ribs are sore the next day, but having not attended LSU. LSU lacked the particulars that I wanted as a working musician (not to say the music program isn't good), but I'm literally the first in my extended family of all who've attended college to NOT go to LSU... hence I was raised an LSU fan. The school I went to had a Division I basketball team, and I supported them because I knew it was the right thing to do, but didn't really care when they lost in the tourney... it was like I was forcing it... when LSU plays, there's nothing forced. It's just something that's in me. I'm 24, but I've been going to games since the 1991. So it's not like I jumped on board after Saban started winning... I wish more alums would understand that.

I know a big part of my fandom is from my attending the school. I have very fond memories of the campus during the fall. In fact, the co-eds must be looking really nice right now in the tight sweaters. Meh, it's cool, but maybe not cold enough for sweaters yet.
I sometimes wonder how someone who didn't attend LSU could love it as much as I do, but you can see from this thread that fans are made from different cloth. It's just cool that the cloth is always purple and gold.

For the most part, all of those who went to school somewhere else have mentioned schools close to Louisiana or relatively small universities. I personally go to the University of Kansas. I was born and raised a die-hard LSU fan. I have just as much love for the Tigers as any person who ever attended the University. We have season tickets and I make it to 2-3 games a year. People ask me why I am not a KU fan and most simply put I go to school here purely to work towards a degree. I have never liked KU athletics. I make it to a few basketball games a year just because you can't go to KU and not go to Phog Allen, but when I'm at the games I don't feel the excitement and passion I feel when I am around any LSU sporting event. I just don't have the pride in pageantry in this school. Hell, I cheer for KSU when they play KU in football because I have so many buddies on the team. Lawrence is an awesome college town with great people and fun stuff to do, but none of that is due to sporting events for me. I stayed at KU because it was close to home, I played baseball my freshman year at a D-2 school, and because my girlfriend. I will be transferring to LSU next fall and cannot wait. I feel like not having any pride in your school diminishes part of the college experience.

I root for LSU, until they play UL(L).
somebody on this board cracks on UL(L), I stand up for it.
It's not a dilemma...it's the right thing to do.

Neither of my schools have football teams. One has no "teams" period.

I was at LSU for 7 semesters, due to personal reasons I finishing at McNeese this semester, my 3rd here. It's strange that I spend all week on McNeese campus, but couldn't tell you who they are playing any given week, unless it's LSU. Hell, my house shares a property line with their football practice field and I still don't know what the frick is going on.
I wish I lived in this house last year because I would have put up the biggest LSU flag i could afford during game week.

What exactly is the point of this post???

I had a free ride at SLU to study guitar. At the time there was no guitar instruction at LSU and no football team at SLU. The SLU Strawberries were resurrected in my last year or two out there. I never had any problem sorting out my football priorities.
If SLU ever plays LSU I will smile on the low-probability chance SLU squeezes out a good play, but will be happier in the long run with an LSU victory. I would like to see SLU keep it competitive, though at best it would stay that way for maybe a quarter.

I graduated from UNLV the year after we won the NCAA Basketball National Championship.
I thought I had seen the pinnacle of all sporting events because UNLV basketball was huge in Vegas.
Moved here in 96' and some friends finally convinced me into going to see #14 LSU vs #1 UF.
I stood there in disbelief the entire night and when y'all ripped the goal posts down I thought you were insane. But it was like crack and I was completely hooked from that moment on. Married an LSU woman and now the circle is complete.
Love UNLV Basketball - I've seen Southern high school football games better than UNLV's football games.

I was born an LSU Tiger and I will die an LSU Tiger. I played college tennis at another division one school and had to compete against LSU. I still feel guilty about beating an LSU player. I apologized after the match. Hope the good Lord will forgive me for this transgression.
Did get to play for LSU MED school Basketball team in the BSU state tournament and we won the whole thing in 1983 or so. OUr center had been the starter for LA Tech when he was in college. He was the only one who could dunk on our team. Several of the teams we played , their whole lineup could dunk. Great times. Geaux Tigers

I am an LSU legacy and currently attend LSU, but I am transferring to Ole Miss next fall.
Depending on my major, I do want to go back for a grad school for an LSU degree. Until then, I will be cheering for the tigers to go 13-1 every season.

DUMB question, I go to college at UL and if I am told that i have to be a UL fan one more time, i am going to bunch that loser lover in the mouth.

I have always been and always will be a LSU fan even though I went to ULL. I am a huge ULL fan also. I have enough sense to know LSU is a way better program. I dont see a problem with liking both schools. I went to ULL b/c most of my close friends did and my girlfriend at the time and now wife did. I loved the school, the town, and my time there. No regrets at all. I go to a few ULL games each year and a few LSU. Went to Dallas this past weekend and will be in BR for the Kentucky game. Never really understood the reasoning behind you can be a fan of a school if you didn't go there.
