My scenario for Texas to the SEC...

Follow me step by step...
- Texas has the contract for LHN with ESPN.
- ESPN is also in bed with the SEC on the SEC Network.
- No conference outside of the Big 12 will allow a school to have an exclusive media rights deal with a major media provider. (Most recent reason for the demise of the Big 12)
- PAC 12 has a media rights deal with Fox (comparable with SEC-ESPN)
-If Texas decides it cannot sustain independance and/or LHN of the level they want/need($$$) then they will realize that they need a conference. They will also realize that they need to "disband" the LHN.
- Texas will have to ask ESPN to terminate the LHN contract.
******Every contract formation/termination needs equal "consideration"******
Question: Would ESPN allow a program like Texas, with its marketability/fan base etc., go into a conference whose major media partnership is with maybe their biggest rival (FOX)?
In the end, I can see Texas being led/influenced/forced, via the consideration offered to let Texas walk away from the LHN contract, to join the SEC.
SEC would take em for the same reasons they took ATM.
THis time frame may take 3 weeks / 3 months / 3 years... All depending on what happens with most other schools in Big 12.
Just my thought. PLease poke holes in my reasoning so I dont get in a fight with a Texas fan over it.
ROll Tide / Looking forward to having yall at my tailgate.

Interesting. I hadn't thought about it like that.

Please look at history, every conference that Texas has ever belonged to has been destroyed because of their greed. Hell yeah, the SEC has Bama, but they aren't greedy. Now cheating is a different subject.

Bama would ut them in their place with a quickness.

No.
If (most likely at this point WHEN) A&M joins, then I see A&M creating a coalition with Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, and probably Florida to block an entry. (Florida may also bring in Georgia, Kentucky, and South Carolina from its coalition to keep out FSU, Miami, Clemson, Ga Tech, and Louisville.)

Texas would never come to the SEC...Too many hard games for them year in, year out...They are too arrogant anyway...I live in Texas and get tired of those arrogant bastards...I don't believe A&M would have agreed to the SEC if there was not an "under the table" deal to block Texas anyway...Interesting theory anyway...

Same here and I'm tired of all the nauseating burnt orange stuff in the stores with no A&M stuff (I see more OU stuff in my area). That's why I make sure to emphasize the Arlington part of my alma mater.

I've heard that the SEC made assurances to Texas A&M that Texas would not follow them into the conference. take it FWIW.

I thought that the Fox deal with PAC 12 were regional networks, based on two teams. And if that was the case then the LHN is a regional, as it would include whatever Big XII-III they bring in.

They are such fair weather fans...when they are winning, everyone wears that gay cowskull, when they are losing, they don't even want to talk about football...i went to one game there, years ago...couldn't stand sitting in the stands with all those arrogant pricks...don't worry, they won't come to the SEC, they can't compete...they are to used to that one game a year against Oklahoma...big 12 is weak...A&M has always been in their shadow because of politics in Austin...good for A&M, they'll definitely improve in a lot of areas by being in the SEC

quote:listen, UT is the prettiest girl at the dance, and every guy(conference) wants to take her home. A&M is in zero position to negotiate orders. yes, we'll take them, but if the whale is close to being hooked, we'd leave A&M at the alter for UT if we had to pick between them(assuming the details are worked out).

this is all a money play, and UT holds the biggest trump card out there. question is, would OU go west if UT goes east- theyd likely be a pair deal, only complicating things further
quote:i completely agree. more b/c they are used to ordering people around and calling all the shots- not b/c they couldnt handle the competition.

Personally I think one TX school is plenty and from what I have read on forums from both schools the past year I would prefer aTm over UT. I am sure their will be plenty of TV sets in TX tuned in to aTm games to either cheer for them or their opponent.
