Oh so that didn't go over your head after all?

Why is Pastorini's situation having anything to do with this

Oh good god how stupid are you? THE ORIGINAL POST WAS AN ARTICLE ABOUT PASTORINI

quote:

Brees said F the retired players

No. No he didn't.

quote:

Tell me if that pays an insurance deductible, genius.

It depends on the policy

No, probably because you have no experience with that.

You presume to know much about me. Again, wrong.

quote:

You're right, employees who work in hazerdous conditions but are given faulty safety equipement that hurts them in the long run has no merit. Just like the countless hazerdous work enviroment lawsuits willing employees worked under only to be duped into believing they were safe. You're right, they assumed the risk for that 20K they made a year.

This is a completely seperate issue. If they can demonstrate that the equipment was indeed "faulty" they might be able to squeeze the league for some cash. Keep in mind that "faulty" is not synonymous with "outdated".

You fail at this. You fail to demonstrate the rational link between what players make today and what, if anything, retired players are "entitled" to. You fail to stay on topic, even going so far as to ask what Dan Pastorini's financial situation has to do with what we're talking about. Oh dear god.

Dan Pastorini, who just last year crashed his MERCEDES while driving drunk, is bitching because his $1700 monthly stipend won't cover his rent... and we're supposed to feel sorry for him because the current players didn't make a big enough allowance for him? frick this guy. He made more in one season than I make in a multiple year span, but I still get by.

Also, frick this guy. Seriously. I have a wife and three kids and I support them on a hell of a lot less than the money he made in his career. And you know what? You don't see me asking for a damn handout. I get by on my own because that is what is fricking expected of me as an adult. Who's fault is it that Dan fricking Pastorini can't manage his own life It's not mine, it's not the NFL's, and it sure as hell isn't Drew's.

So, to in summation... frick Dan Pastorini. frick him up his stupid arse.

Thanks for that. Nobody is defending the guy. The argument is over the retired players- not Pastorini.

i agree.

ya, they made way less money. It was not a smart thing for drew to say. I'm sure he regrets it. It's a lot easier to "manage" your money when you are about to get 50 million guaranteed.

drew gets a pass though, and i believe he really wanted to help out the former players

Yes, but they went on strike in 87 and when the owners put scabs on the field, some started crossing the line. When the NFLPA was reformed in 93 and a new CBA was reached, those guys were referred to as pre-93 and they don't get the full effects of the NFLPA, which is why they cried that they didn't have a seat at the table during the most recent negotiations. However, current retired players were there, but the pre-93 guys weren't satisfied with that, which is why they filed the lawsuit, which has since been dropped.

Don Pastorini IS the typical retired player. As Drew Brees so succinctly put it, many of them have had numerous divorces, kids from several different women, rushed into bad business dealings and now their broke.

And "F Drew Brees for his statement", CajunRevolution? Seriously? frick you. You need to get off this board and go cheer for another team. You're a piece of shite and you don't belong here.

You really thought this whole thread was going to evolve around Pastorini's comments. Seriously. Who the hell cares about Pastorini. The guy could be a douchebag. The entire conversation has been about the merits of the retired players for better benefits.

Yeah, I'll say it again. Having NFLPA leadership making half arse comments like that was pretty GD retarded.

if you're trying to effectively communicate a point of view on SAINTS talk, then it would be best not to say "frick drew brees"

Laces out DAN!!!!!!!!!

But on the the quote above, I completely agree and anyone who has any sense agrees.

The past players see guys getting $50 mil guaranteed and think that they are somehow entitled to more than they are getting. It doesn't work like that and never does.

Guys A starts hamburger joint. Makes good money. Guy B buys hamburger joint and takes it national and makes a gazillion dollars. Does Guy A deserve or is he entitled to a piece of what the business has become after he sold it? No! He got what he got and the new owner gets what he gets. Sometimes life isn't fair but that's the way the beans fall, DAN!

Those players knew what the deal was 40 years ago. Dan made real good money and was a VERY high pick. Think he was picked before Manning. He got into racing which is very expensive and it didn't pan out and lost his shirt, whose fault is that?
