With Jefferson gone, will Oregon change their approach to defend the pass better and force Lee to scramble?

If so, does LSU respond with runs called for Lee, and optional runs for Lee after showing pass? quick screens?

And FWIW, Lee seems to make good throws out of the pocket. This will be a shootout.

Not sure what to think about Lee. One thing I know about him: he throws a very catchable ball. He's also streaky, at times his accuracy is off the charts.

Other times....

The only way it will help Oregon is that they are now less likely to put an extra defender or two in the box to stop the run forcing the QB to beat them in the air.....unless that extra defender blitzes....and then look for some quick slants.

I am not opposed to running running and more running, if it's effective. This strategy may work well against this Oregon D.

But, then you factor in run blocking and pass protection without Josh Dworaczyk. He seems to be a force.

Lee won't be scrambling unless it's WIDE open for a few yards. I'm sure he'll take what the defense gives him(Miles said the TE's would be more involved) and then throw the ball away if pressured. Hopefully not off his back foot and not in the field of play.

Play calls for Lee to run will likely not be in the game plan. Likely no options and no zone reads. If an option is called it will be a pre-determined pitch where Lee will take about two steps towards the DE and pitch it...trying to help the RB get the edge.

Not sure what you mean about optional runs after showing pass? Like a QB draw? Doubtful. Quick screens...yes. I think they want to get the ball out of his hands as quick as possible like they did a number of times last year. Bubble screens and quick pop passes to the TE.

I heard that. Do you really think it will be noticeable enough that he'll now be a scrambler and have run plays called for him?

I would be you'll see the coaches call a couple of zone keeps with JLee to keep the D honest on mesh plays, but i like where he can fit into the passing schemes we've called the last few years. Forget throwing down the field, the biggest difference, and biggest improvement IMHO, will be the success of quick screens and slants because they will be put on the right part of the body.

Agreed, this is JL's best attribute coming from JJ.

this game will be won in the trenches. If LSU controls the OL and we can run the ball , control the clock and play CLM ball we win

If we cannot run to setup the pass it will be a long day

One of the Oregon sportscasters said today that the Ducks will put 8 in the box and shut down the running game. Forcing J. Lee to beat them with his arm. He did say that they had a first time starter at one corner and this could back fire.

Not necessarily - IF we run the ball 35 times and get 170 yards, scoring twice, and Lee (assuming he plays the whole way) goes 17-30, 185 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, add in another 3 points for a FG, that's 31 points, and I would assume we have dictated the pace and won the game.....if the defense has done its job.
