Alright, during my time on TD.com, I'm going to try to bring something a little different to the Gaming Board. I notice a lot of "information-directed" threads on this board, and I think we need more "gamer-oriented" threads.

As first topic, we will begin with the concept of "Game Completion."

Are there any of you who don't attempt to fully complete a game? For example, today I was playing Fallout 3, and a good portion of the quests also involved optional side quests. Do any of you pass these optional quests up?

When I play a game, I normally have to get all the accomplishments, complete all quests (side and main), etc.

unless I completely lose interest, I try to do everything.

ETA: I've got full gamerscore on both fallout games, if that tells you anything.

I tend to focus on the main story and less on the side quest unless I love the game.

I agree.

For most games though, it has to be very bad in order for me to completely quit the game.

Once I start it, I have to finish it.

I have played through Fallout 3 once already and I am going through it again.

I had over 120 hours of gameplay with Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. I blame weed and college though.

I was just saying in the snack thread that I am a pretty devoted completionist most of the time, but I will stop short of tedious collection quests.

There is no chance that I will skip even the most minuscule side quest, but if it comes to like... collecting 100 skulltula tokens or 100 Borgia flags, there's a good chance I'm going to give up. Even if you use a map or strategy guide, it can still be a pain in the arse trying to figure out which ones you missed.

I rage quit like a mother fricker, but I realize that's not exactly what you were getting at.

As far as single player goes, beating a game is first and foremost. If I really like said game, I'll try to do some achievements and whatnot, but by then I have a new and shiny game to keep me occupied.

I will admit that I'm a whore for achievements with certain games and I don't know exactly why. I don't give a shite about my gamer score, but I guess there's a sense of personal satisfaction when I compare my score to a friend's and notice that I've completed all achievements for Mass Effect 2 and he's completed half of them.

I will give you this. It is like a good puzzle. I have to complete it.

Mass Effect 2
One of my favorite games. I cannot wait for ME3. I also completed every side quest. Including the ones that had to do with planet scanning.

The only thing I'm really a perfectionist with is Zelda.

You picked a horrible example for that. Or maybe a very apt one.

To finish Fallout 3 completely, you need to play the entire campaign multiple times. Does your desire for completion entail that?

I would consider myself a trophy whore, but I have been less apt to get every single trophy lately.

I have a hard time playing a game more than once, especially since I have a gamefly account and usually 2 games constantly being switched.

The games that I really like, I will platinum thoughs. Uncharted, Dead Space and a few others.

As far a completion on a single play-through. I am the guy scouring every single corner as to not miss a thing. This actually ruins the story of some RPGs for me. I get so wrapped up in doing the side quests for completions sake, that I completely get burnt out on the game before I even get halfway with the main quest. I did this on my first play-through of Oblivion.

I'm a completionist, but I don't care about Gamerscore as much as most would think. Example: Last week I played through Brotherhood. I made sure every step of the way I did every single side quest - I had each quest completed for everything, but I only got to 750 Gamerscore (max of 1,000) and was 100% ok with it. I wanted to make sure I completely all of the side quest in the game, to make sure I didn't miss anything, but I didn't care if I got 100% completion.

BTW, I'm a gamer score whore. I'll try to get all the points. Doesn't happen often, but I will still try for them

Another game that you can get easily burnt out on doing sidequests IMO.

I've done it on all 3 .

I know.............what gives? Figured you found plenty of "nothing" underneath all those rocks.

ETA: Speaking of completionist type games, I told my sister to get me Fallout: New Vegas on PC for my birthday. She texted me saying Gamestop saw 1 copy on file, but couldn't find it. I called her back almost screaming "I know where the the thing is. I was there Saturday. Those idiot employees!!" But she was already at Wal Mart not finding it there.

I always complete the main quest/storyline in any game I play (unless the game is awful), but I don't 100% too many games. After I finish the main quest I always find it hard to go back into a game and do side quests and look for collectibles.
