Really?

All of that buildup and then all of a sudden we hear no thanks from the SEC. Why the hell did they have all these talks and meetings only to say peace out?

They aren't going to send the invite until they have the other team(s) picked out and ready to go.

Read Matchen's quote. The SEC wants to make sure any expansion is done properly and that the new schools fit in the criteria we want.

It's far from over.

It would be hard to offer a 13th team without offering the 14th team.

If they offered A&M without the 14th team there would be a ton of speculation and scrutiny and it would be hard to have talks with the 14th team out of the spotlight.

Not to mention, the SEC doesn't want to just go and raid another conference. It's going to take some time.

This. Slive had his arse handed to him by the school presidents. He thought he could get a rubber stamp approval of his plan, which was Texas A&M followed by Florida State.

The school presidents had other ideas.

This rejection wasn't aimed at Texas A&M, but Texas A&M along with Florida State.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if Slive resigns in the near future.

Geauxld, I disagree. The statement was purely to leave a paper trail that the SEC is not courting A&M.

A&M must leave the Big XII and then apply for membership into the SEC.

If it's not done in that order the Big XII will sue the SEC for tortious interference

I dont buy it. regardless of what people may think of slive, hes a very smart SOB. i dont think he would progress this far without knowing what the presidents thought.
