2003 and 2005, this may have a lot to do with Mauk and Jamarcus having their best years ever with these guys though. 2001 had the best numbers though.
You mean 2006

not in the last 50 years even. Go watch BOTH Eric Martin and Wendell Davis plays. MONSTERS on running football teams. Martin was listed as a Split End FWIW that's how much we ran the football then. Davis would pummel a db and so would Martin. Saw Martin make more catches with the Saints, take a lick, get up shrug his pads and walk back to the huddle like it was nothing. Guy was the true Silent Avenger!
I agree that Wendell Davis was also a monster and Eric Martin was a favorite receiver of mine for most of my life.

My vote goes to 2003:
Clayton, Henderson, Green, Bowe
Clayton, Henderson, Green, Bowe

Gotta have a team with Sammy Martin on it!

Upside down?
And got to be 2005 IMO. All of those guys were 1st and 2nd round draft pics if I am not mistaken.

I don't think I said there was one. In fact, I do believe that statement is an oxymoron.

I think it was a last minute TD catch against Kentucky. The game was not on TV if i remember right.

Jamarcus having their best years ever
This is why i hate the rant. I doubt most of you even watch the fricking games.
Jamarcus' best year throwing the ball was in 2006. Not 2005. Jamarcus, bowe, and davis went in the first round because of the 2006 season. Not 2005. A lot of people in this thread and on this board need to get their facts strait before they ever post again.
Im going with 05, just with the total names on the roster. Green and brazell were srs. Bowe and Davis jrs. Carter, doucet so. Then lafell was redshirted as a freshman.

Nothing against Wendell Davis and Eric Martin, I know they were great players. In fact, some of my earliest LSU memories was the win over South Carolina in the Gator Bowl, Davis was awesome. But Josh Reed is without a doubt the best WR in LSU history. He was open on pretty much every play, no one could cover him, hell it was totally obvious who Davey was going to throw to on every play and he still couldn't be covered. He broke pretty much every receiving record - and don't forget he left after his junior year.
That said I think the 2001 and 2006 had the best WR corp. 06 was just insane with Bowe, Davis, Doucet, and Lafell.
And 01 with Reed, Clayton, and Meyers.

You put a lot on the QB and offensive philosophy of Jimbo. We mostly ran the football with James and Hilliard when Martin played. Neither him nor davis ever dropped the football and a lot of those catches were in traffic over the middle. Both were far superior blockers over Reed and had better hands.
I know reed won those awards and set those records, but his was about getting lost in traffic due to his size more than anything. His route running was above average, but as we know he didn't have the breakaway speed of a Henderson.
That all played out in the Pros FWIW. Look at productivity of Martin with the Saints, who were still pretty bad then and look at Reed's with the Bills.
here is your history lesson.
this is why you cannot claim one player greater than another when it is over a football team's existence:
In 1981, Martin went to the Louisiana State University (LSU). As a wide receiver for LSU's football team, Martin had 2,625 yards receiving, which at the time was the most career passing yards caught by any receiver in Southeastern Conference (SEC) history. Martin's best season came during his junior year in 1983 when he had 1,064 receiving, which at the time was the 3rd best single-season performance in SEC history. That year, Martin became the first wide receiver in LSU history to be awarded All-American honors.
Martin was taken in the 7th round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He was the 27th wide receiver taken that year.
Martin played in 10 NFL seasons from 1985–1994. In 1987, he helped lead the Saints to their first playoff appearance in franchise history, only to lose to the Minnesota Vikings 44-10 in the NFC Wildcard. The following year, Martin was a Pro Bowl selection, catching 85 receptions for 1,083 yards and 7 touchdowns. After playing 9 years with the Saints, he spent the last year of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Martin holds several Saints receiving records. He ranks first in receptions with 532, second behind Joe Horn in touchdowns with 48, and first receiving yards with 7,854. He ranks second behind Joe Horn with most 100-yard receiving games with 18.

Josh Reed
While at LSU, Reed was one of the most productive receivers in college football. In only two years as a wide receiver (his freshman year he played running back for most of the season and he declared for the NFL draft after his junior season) he rewrote the SEC record books. He holds the SEC record for receiving yardage in a game (293 vs. Alabama in 2001) and season (1,740 in 2001). He also held the career receiving yardage record with 3,001 yards until 2002 when the record was broken by Georgia receiver Terrence Edwards. Reed also holds the SEC season record for receiving yardage per game (145.0 in 2001) and is second in the career receiving yardage per game (96.8).
Reed was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round (36th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft.[1] In 2003, Reed replaced Peerless Price as the Bills' starting wide receiver. He caught 58 passes and two touchdowns.[2] Reed was hospitalized for two days in November 2006 after bruising his kidney.[3]
Reed caught 311 passes for 3,575 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Bills.[4] He became an unrestricted free agent following the 2009 season.
