If and When the Big 12 breaks up?

Most likely get absorbed into power conferences, at least OSU, Oklahoma, Missouri, etc.

Obviously the two biggest gems right now are Texas and Notre Dame.
It will be interesting to see if they can be/stay independents.

Texas having it own network will help it out if they choose to be Independent.

If four super conference form they could get fricked.

Fourth being a merger or ACC/Big East?
Posted on 8/12/11 at 4:06 am to geauxtigers6492
I would think ACC. But who knows. Basketball will have a little say in it all. And the Big East/ACC are the power houses.

Itll be interesting to see the other moves happen.

Texas: Independent
OU: Pac 12
OSU: Pac 12
Missouri: Big Ten
TTU, Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State...no idea.

The Big Ten really doesn't want Missouri.
The Big Ten Dream is Texas, Notre, and two other random teams that add TV markets.

I'm aware that Mizzou isn't the "prettiest girl at the dance" to the Big Ten, but I'm saying that's who they might end up with.
Notre Dame doesn't need a conference for football...right now.
And surely every BCS conference realizes that Texas is going through a phase right now that precludes them being happy in any conference.

I think the Big 10 might end up making a power move and taking several of the former Big 12 teams (esp if the SEC grabs A&M and someone else)
Missouri does make sense in the Big 10 (culturally they fit there) - their geographic footprint also works in several ways. Getting Mizzou helps the Big 1G in STL and extends the Big 10 area of influence to KC.
Missouri is best suited for the Big 10 because if they play Illinois (ideally in STL every year) and Kansas (would be an ooc game if MU went to the Big 10 & ideally a game they would play in KC) they would maximize their hold on the state of Missouri. And while they are not a A or A- program IMO - they are a good B or B+. A flagship program for a major state with a decent number of televisions that watch college sports.
OU I think is an interesting one - they more than any other program I can think of could really go to the SEC, the PAC, or the Big 10 - and fit to some extent. Of those 3 they probably fit more in the Big 10 or the SEC - if a Big 10 emerged with nebraska, missouri, illinois, iowa, and OU - that would make a lot of sense (it would seem like a midwestern conference).
Obviously their issue is they may have political ties with Ok State - making them hard to separate.
Really most of the answers are behind closed doors right now - the pac 12 seems willing to potentially expand more, the big 1G and the SEC are less clear - having expanded to 12 will they stop? Is the SEC really holding an open ended invite to A&M? And if so, who else would they grab to even out the number of teams?

am I the only person on this site that just really doesn't think aTm is going to the SEC?
this whole "inside info" from a Rivals site just seems like a way of trying to drive up subscriptions.

I think they already chose when they declined the PAC 16.
King of their own dominion (Big 12) or King of themselves. After hearing Nebraska's complaints upon leaving the Big 12, Texas has no desire to just be another power team in a power conference. They have Dirk Diggler syndrome and they can problem get away with it.

aTm to the SEC is as close to being done as you can get. i live in Tx and all of the big newspapers are reporting it, as well as a booster i know.

MWC? Or, form some new conference with some of the non-bcs teams that are near them.

Some will go the Big East. Others will go to the Pac 10. The rest should be invited to the Mountain West. A school that is really screwed at the moment is Iowa State. They're the only school in the Big 12 that brings nothing to the table in terms of market or athletics. The Mountain West might not even want them.

Freudian slip or intentional malapropism?
Either way, I think you're right.

Is the Dallas Morning News trying to drive up subscriptions by having statements from the Governor of Texas (who is a former Aggie yell leader) talking about it?
