Obviously this is just personal opinion, but I vote for Sammy Martin. Tiger running back who was 5'11" and weighed 175. I saw that guy get smashed time and time again and he always got back up and got the job done. He played injured a great deal of the time but you wouldn't know it from the way he ripped off those runs.

I'd pick either Laron "Dirty Thirty" Landry or Quin Johnson. These guys put the fear into people.

ETA: I'd also add Trindon Holliday and Tyranne Matheiu to my list. Holliday was tough for such a small guy and Matheiu is a mini Laron Landry when it comes to his aggressive play style.

George Bevan, Art Cantrelle, Bobby Jo King, Sammy Martin, Herb Tyler and Jacob Hester. There are several I missed I'm sure, but this is a good list that goes all the way back to 1967.

Take it from a guy that has followed LSU football since the NC of 58'. The toughest pound for pound was the South Lafourche Badass..............AARRTTHHUURR CCAANNTTRREELLEE. Hands down! End of story! No one else even close!

I haven't read the thread, and I won't for several hours, but "toughness" is not something we have a standard for measuring. I think most of it is character; the rest physical ability.

I think Jacob Hester is the one who comes to mind. I also think Art Cantrell should be in the conversation.
But, really, it's not fair to single out only a few that we notice. Especially since the ones we notice are the ball handlers.

OoooK. I just read the thread, and I am surprised. But, seriously, we have a whole bunch of tough competitors who really don't get recognized. To LSU!
