What pound line do y'all use for inshore...

Fishing? Specs and reds?
Just recently got into the saltwater within the last few years. Have mostly used my friend's stuff but now am venturing out without him. Using my mid-size and larger ambassador reels I use for freshwater and got some longer rods but what pound test do y'all use? I bought 15 and 20. Help me

Braid is becoming popular with or without a mono leader. I keep a few reels with 16# and 20# mono on the leader and others with braid and 20# mono leader.
What you plan on fishing with can play into it. Meaning meat under a cork versus working a topwater or soft plastics can make one set up better than another.
Hope that helps.

12 with a 30 leader if under a cork or on the bottom.

Dont listen to people from Tx tell you about fishing. 12lb is plenty , plus you get a better feel

I use 20 lb Power Pro for just about everything.

I'm usually throwing 12-15 because I use the same rod and reel for freshwater as well. Only thing I change is a leader with about 30lb like said before because the god damn Spanish mackerel have been killing my bait!

12 lb test works well in Grand Isle. Add a 30 lb leader if the fish are running large.

I use the smallest pound test I can get away with with a a 4-5 lb. increase in shock tippet tied with a nail knot.
Test varies signficantly with spinning vs casting reels and species of fish. 12 lb. seems to be a good all-purpose line with a 3 ft. tippet of 15 lb. test for inshore teeth and scales.

frick off duoche. You probably like to go out, never get wet, soak shrimp or some sort of meat under a cork like a 6 year old, catch your 25 and go home like hero. I've had plenty of success in LA and would probably fish circles around you. But that's just b/c you sound like a vag. I love fishing LA with cool cats, you sound like a wet blanket. Lets meet in Burris sometime with yaks or boats and have a good time.
Or do you prefer just to run your gums?

How'd you and the gf end up doing?

14 lb trilene smooth casting.

quote:Terrible. My younger brother came. We burnt through 100 shrimp. Caught one speck and that Spanish. My brother had 2 other huge specks and reeled them all the way in just to have them fall off his line when he went to grab them. The second one was at least 25", he was so pissed. The hardheads, small pompano and small white trout destroyed our bait

. The gf just crabbed, ended up keeping 4 dozen crabs. Half of what we caught had eggs.
Better than sitting at home I suppose

O well. I like getting the bad days over with because I feel like the karma will kick in for the next trip.

Boats,
Sounds like you didn't throw the artificials?
Buddy of mine caught 65 nice trout in Elmer's surf (from boat) on Sunday am., before 9 am. All artificial.
