To all the discerning LSU baseball aficionados who know what they are talking about, with LSU's young but experienced and talented starting pitching rotation, the return of Austin Nola and all the others returning, what is a realistic chance of LSU making postseason play (I'm guessing 70% ?) and making the CWS (I have no idea). Would like to hear some insightful, perceptive, and savvy opinions on what to expect starting next February.

I think we will be damn good. We will have the best weekend starters as a unit since the Bertman days. Not much power in the lineup.

It's way over 70%...probably 90%.

Pitching will be as good as it's been since '09...maybe '93. Just depends on how the back end of the bullpen can handle their duties. Gausman, Eades, and McCune should eat a ton of innings, though. The bullpen worries me some. I wonder if Little Nola doesn't fit in there somehow.

Then, there's the hitting. We are not going to be a power ball club. This Arby Jones better be ready right off the bat. We're gonna have to move runners around and play some punch and judy. Maybe we get some big blasts from Rhymes and one of the newcomers. I see a lot of close ballgames and about a 16-14 SEC record...2nd place in west and a 4-5 overall. We should host but I do not see us as a top 8 until the following season.

As everyone has stated, pitching will be a strength, especially if Aaron Nola does not have a change of heart ($$) and Cody Glenn and Nick Goody, also turn down MLB bucks.
Hitting is another story. We really do not have any power hitters, and I don't see a lot of help coming in this year. Katz came on strong this past season, but losing MM will hurt. I just hope that everyone finds their stroke next year, hitting must improve.
Overall, I see us hosting a regional, but hitting must improve for us to reach Omaha.

we will have good pitching and at least average if not above average hitting....you don't need power hitting to win

Hitting has me pretty worried. UCLA had the #1 & #3 OVERALL picks in the MLB draft as their 1/2 starters. They could not hit though. Struggled all season and couldn't make it out of a regional. I definitely see us making a regional but I see the same issues.

I mean, we couldn't hit for shite this year AND we're losing one of the best players to ever put on a tiger uniform. I think Pisces makes a good prediction with 16-14.

We have good hitters. They just need to produce.

But it honestly doesn't fit PM's philosophy. You know as well as I, he doesn't want to play small ball but he is kinda limited to it right now. PM has always been aggressive in the way he approaches the game. We tried small ball this year it bite us in the arse...a lot. But that was probably mostly due to timely hitting. We didn't have any consistency there.

Making it to he post-season? 75-80% range. Biggest question marks remain first and third base (both in terms of offensive production and defense) along with the bullpen (I think this should be improved.)

as everyone has stated. Hitting will be the key this season. Hopefully our seniors with Jones and maybe a freshman or two can pick up the hitting. If our hitting produces 6-7 runs a game. I could see us hosting a sub regional. I don't think we will be a national seed.

Mainieri will find a method that produces enough runs to win. He relied too heavily on small ball early in the sec season, but eventually backed off it a little. We seemed to do better then. Of course we also had a new and improved Mason Katz at that point too.

If our hitters produce like they did at the end of last season we will be fine.

That with some new blood in the lineup. I'm hoping Raph's surgery doesn't slow him down any next year.

Our pitching will be as good as it gets. Gausman, Eades and McCune make up a very formidable EXPERIENCED weekend rotation now and with all the relievers we have and talent there we will have no shortage of great pitchers.

Hitting is a HUGE question mark, we need Raph back 100% because if he drops off we wont have much of anything at the plate. We need him and Katz to be big guys at the plate and Hanover/Nola to come back and do better this year than last. Jones needs to do better vs. SEC pitching but he has great plate potential. Interested to see what Fields can deliver for us as a freshman.

Fields will be a junior. He will be taking a big step up in competition coming from juco/Big 10 but at least he does have some experience.

from looking at his stats, he got on base a bunch and got alot of hits, but what has me worried is their entire team hit pretty well
