I haven't had it in a few years, but we always used to eat it with red beans. Not sure why it started, but my mom would do a homemade pot of red beans for every Monday, and she would make sausage with it and also cook up slices of spam in a pan.

I used to eat a few pieces with my plate of beans. After that, I would toast two pieces of bread, pour some beans on each piece, and slap a few pieces of spam in between. DELICIOUS!

Seriously, my mom could not cook at all. She alternated 2 lunches for me and Bro. A spam sammich and a livercheese sammich. Every day for about 8 years.
I haven't eaten either since I left home for college.
In retrospect Bro and I suffered from malnutrition. He graduated HS at 5-11, 140 pounds. I graduated at 5-8, 112.

Told the wife to put out some chicken breast so I could cook it with cabbage but she forgot. Had to used turkey spam instead and it was delicious.

I actually was going to try cooking my red beans with some spam in it too.

My papaw would bring a sack full of spam and egg sandwiches hunting with us when I was a lad. I'd eat the hell out of em.

We never actually had the beans with the spam cooked in it. But as a side, and on that sammich that I explained, it was really good.

Damn Zach, seems like you, women, and food have always had issues to deal with for a long time.

ETA there was exactly one can of Spam in my moms pantry, in many many years it was NEVER comsumed by anyone.

When I was a kid we had fried spam, mac and cheese, and pinto beans all the time. I love it! My wife can't stand it, and I've been told I can't have it in the house.

Same for our house. I have two or three cans of span someone left at my house a year or so back. It went straight in the hurricane supply box.

My Dad used to keep it in the boat, along with some vienna sausages to eat when we were shrimping\fishing. Put it on some saltine crackers, hell yeah, man!

I should have shipped it back to the company to do research on the shelf life of petrified Spam when she moved to Arkansas.

AMEN! Wish I could have been there for one of those meals.

My son's an Eagle Scout and I honestly believe that many of those boys were in scouts because their mothers would send spam with them on camping trips so that their boys wouldn't starve. The same ladies banned spam from the home due to it not being "health food."
