Dunn was definitely a miss. But, we got Kevin Franklin. He was supposed to make us forget about Dunn.

McKnight was the same class as Ridley...I don't think that really affected us. Ridley did for us basically what McKnight did for USC.
Eli was a SR in 2003, LSU won the BCS Title in 2003 so losing him didn't really affect us that much either.

How wasn't he a miss when he missed?
USC's backfield being "crowded" had no bearing on how he turned out. The kid was their #1 RB for 2 and a half years and he was given every possible chance to shine. He just more or less flickered.
Don't get me wrong, he was alright. At times, he showed flashes, but overall.....the kid was no where NEAR the 5*, #2 prospect in the country, RB that everyone expected him to be.
I think a lower Rivals250 would have sufficed and his performance in college would have warranted it.
Hence, he wasn't a "can't miss."
In retrospect, yes he missed. We could use hindsight to say this about anyone.
If we are talking about at the time of his recruitment, when he spurned LSU, he was considered a can't miss. Maybe not by you or me, but by the "experts". I took the OG question to mean what recruits were CONSIDERED to be can't miss and spurned LSU. McKnight definitely falls in that category.
While you or I may not have been overly impressed with the flashes of stardom, the "experts" were and dubbed him the next Reggie Bush.

No. 11 Ryan Perrilloux.
He at first spurned LSU but his fateful decision to change to LSU on signing day altered the LSU landscape for years. Imagine if Colt McCoy had decided to come to LSU. He would have redshirted for the 2005 season and would have had 4 years of eligibility starting in the 2006 season. Jamarcus would have started that year anyway, but it would have been an epic battle against Matt Flynn in 2007. Then, the team would have been all his for 2008 and 2009. Remember those years?

At one point Payton Manning, Ike Hilliard, and Warrick Dunn were all playing college football; all were from the state of LA; and not one chose to come to LSU.
Could you imagine if that trio were on the same offense in college? At LSU of course.

Josh booty before signing with the marlins. Rated higher than Peyton manning.

We were talking about Minor and I slipped up saying Dunn. Kinda easy to do, both Catholic RBs who wore #28 and played for FSU.

How about Janzen Jackson? I know he's had his issues off the field but that kid is a stud.

McKnight and Berlin along with both booty brothers that played qb have been the most talked about hs football players I can remember what they ended up actually doing in college is a different matter if you are talking about players we missed out on that turned out great at the college level I would say Payton manning Marshall Faulk and Adrian Thomas were all big misses

Joe McKnight didn't hurt LSU. He was overrated and a prima donna.
In retrospect. At the time it was a major loss.
This is true; but for those who are saying Ed Reed, remember, he was not highly recruited by many teams, just turned out much better than anyone could have expected...

He chose Miami over the Mighty Green Wave..

How about the Law Firm? How did he fly under the radar? I remember WM playing him and Jolla was all anyone talked about at all...until Jared Frost walked him down like he was standing still.
