Yeah in the SEC we actually play defense
so it your contention that JJ is really good, its just the SEC defenses are so good he can't put up any stats? I wonder what a guy like Cam Newton or Tim Tebow would vs SEC defenses?

wait he ranks Landry Jones over Luck?!?!
Now,that is a huge flaw in the whole list b/c its obvious at the most important position
no its a flaw in your thinking most likely. He ranks the AA team based on his projections of college performance, not how they project at the next level (though Jones is a projected 1st rounder in his own right)

Well you should be right but in the case of preseason polls... those can predetermine the national championship
the only poll that affects the BCS is the coaches poll, not Phil Steele or any other magazine.

last year TCU started #5 or 5, Oregon #11, Auburn #22. Who was ranked 1 and 2 by the end of the year? If the polls were chisled in stone, you'd have a point, but the voters have show a willingness to jump teams that deserve by year end and spare me the 2004 Auburn stuff, that happened once and all the computers had AU lower as well and those aren;t based on preseason

...nope. Luck is a better QB hands down. And, I am not referring to draft status/ranking.

Phil Steele was way off on his strength of the PAC-10 conference several years ago, but since I've followed his website and publication, along with his appearances on the Bill King radio show, the guy is about as informed as they come.
He has a team of college football junkies that help him stay on top of things. No, he's not always right, but his opinion is one that I give respect.

NO LSU players on 1st or 2nd team Preseason All-America list. Only 1 on the 3rd team, none on 4th team. Seriously? This may be the sickest defense in the entire nation..WTF?????
No LSU players on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th team Offense All-American.
NO LSU players on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd team Special Teams All-American list.
And he has a Duck on first team, Offense, Defense and Special Teams.
Listen, these preseason things are only done to sell mags. Steele, Anthon, Lindy they are the worst.

this is what is known as an opinion. Look at these stats and tell me who was the better QB "hands down".

263 372 3338 70.7 8.97 81 32 8 6 170.2

I guess as we get closer to game time we'll see more not so enlightened posts coming from both sides. Sorry to trouble you with the obvious.

Well, I'm not sure what else you're referring to then. Luck will probably be the better pro, but with Harbaugh leaving and the system they run at OU, I bet Jones puts up more gaudy numbers this year.

I was just joking, Ducks...
But it was fairly obvious.

BTW, my posts are always enlightening. You'll see.
BTW, BTW, I think I'm going to be in your pond come mid-October for the ASU/OU game - mind if I bounce some questions off of you as we get closer to the game?

I have no regard for Steele's speculative list of preseason All-Americans. That being said, he has historically been a very accurate prognosticator of national champions and end of season rankings. Where does he rank LSU this year?

seeing as Jones put up more guady numbers last year, I'd say that's a safe bet

Of course he is an idiot. I can't believe he didn't have at least 6 LSU players on each side of the ball.
Reading how people are mad because someone didn't list LSU in something never gets old.

You bet, go for it. Ask away. So if you're coming to Autzen, is this your first trip? Are you familiar with Eugene? Oregon? PDX?
Based on history, ASU will lose that game due to cheap shots and penalties. That's what ASU has become famous for (obviously that's a personal opinion). It sort of follows Dennis Erickson, where ever he coaches.

The email address you used to sign up with - is that a good one?
I don't want to derail this thread, but I would like to answer your questions.
And, yes, our D (Burfict) has killed us the last couple of years. Totally not expecting to win the game...

I agree with having only one LSU player on the list. Ware will be great, but Lsu backs share time and given our past offensive woes, I understand why no one would put him on a top xyz list. Sam Montgomery would be a risk as well, given his injury, but with his recovery always ahead of schedule, he'll be great. Too risky to put on a list though.
I read a quote from CLM the other day, and I'm trying to find the link, but he was saying for the Oregon game, Montgomery is getting the start. The issue the coaching staff is having is that they are trying to find a lubricant that will help get his feet out of Darron Thomas's arse after third and long downs. I'll post it when I find it.

It's just something to get us talking. Steele has his own opinions, he just may be a tad looney tunes at times which happens to occur more times than not. In 2009 he didn't even have Oregon crack the top 40 and predicted they'd tie for 6th in the Pac-10 in his super-duper scientific (so he claims) preseason ranking system and we finished 11th in the final polls and won the Pac-10....
I did see you had a few in the all-SEC team even though they didn't make his All-American teams, but one I thought was funny with those was his putting Duron Carter in 2nd team all-SEC (I think, maybe 3rd) and he had all of 13 catches for 176 yards and a TD at Ohio State back in 2009.... May be talented and has the genes but he's done very little at this level so far....
