Another name for #LSU pitching coach: Former NE La. star and 1-time Tigers pitching coach Tom Brown. Said his heart "bleeds purple & gold."
Would that be a good hire?

Never heard that name before. What's his experience?

Paul Mainieri couldn't hire a decent staff to save his fricking life. Still rooting around inferior Louisiana colleges. I'm waiting on the inevitable promotion from within.

What? I don't even know what Tom Brown does now. Anything worth a frick since he left LSU?

Tom Brown enters his fifth season in the organization, his second as pitching coach at Class AA. He spent the 2007-09 seasons as the pitching coach for the Reds' advanced Class A team. Prior to joining the organization, he served as pitching coach for Triple-A Albuquerque (Marlins) in 2006. Brown also worked in the same capacity with Triple-A Fresno (Giants) in 2005. After 3 seasons as minor league pitching coordinator for San Diego, Brown was appointed pitching coach at Triple-A Portland in 2003. He has also worked as pitching coach for Triple-A Oklahoma (1995-98) and Triple-A Las Vegas (1999). Brown began his professional coaching career in the Baltimore Orioles organization as pitching coach for Double-A Hagerstown from 1988-90 and for the GCL Orioles in 1981. During his playing days, Brown pitched in both the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners chains, appearing in 6 Major League games with Seattle in 1978. He attended Northeast Louisiana University, where in 1972 he led the nation with a 0.51 ERA. Tom and his wife of 40 years, Sandy, reside in Venice, Florida.

No, I crap on Mainieri's track record for hiring assistant coaches. Difference.

His last 2 hires have been bad, but he seems to be forming a nice coaching tree of assistants as HC's now. He hasn't always been bad at it.
Grewe was a retread who had success with him at ND. Javy was a promotion, which I assume he has done in the past. The next hires will say whether he has lost the knack, or if he learns from his mistakes. But to crap on his track record is ignorant IMO.

both
his initial staff of rooney and godwin was obviously pretty good

LSU is a top flight program. This isn't the place you let someone cut his teeth like Javy or rerun like Grewe. He had a decent assistant in Rooney but he ended up leaving for UCF.

The worst coaching mistake of his career was and is Javy Sanchez.
frick Grewe leaving. Keeping Sanchez is a more egregious mistake, in my view.
