Tree of Life booed at Cannes

So says the Fox News headline, but that hardly seems the most salient point to be gleaned from the article.
fox link
Supposedly the boos were due to some overly long "cosmic sequences."
This reaction seems more important:
The link includes a 2 minute trailer that is moving as hell, to me.
I remember not enjoying The Thin Red Line, but that was a long time ago, and I'm thinking my perception of it was clouded by seeing SPR that same year.

There have been plenty of great reviews coming out, so I'm not too concerned. Never really thought much of the people at Cannes. Remember how they reacted to Inglourious Basterds a few years back. I really don't care what they think of the film.

Not really suprising.

i remembered seeing the trailer a while back and thinking it looked meh.
I have a feeling this will be one of those movies where movie elitists will love it and call people idiots who are bored with it

this will be a movie those will love because it's cool to be a fan of the mysterious director Malick
Thin Red Line and The New World were not good movies once you get past the cinematography. The premise of this latest is weak at best, the story seems very uninteresting, it doesnt surprise me that it got some negative feedback. Before I knew who the director was, once I saw the preview a few months back, I thought, "doesnt look good" - now knowing Malick is involved, there's no way in hell I'm spending a dime on it

I wont call anyone an idiot unless they have no fricking clue as to what they are watching. There will be at least one person who will complain about the lack of pacing, plot, and character development. Well no shite dumbfrick. You don't go to a Malick movie looking for those kinds of storytelling devices.

if only they knew what was about to happen.

What was about to happen? I lost track of Entourage.

so if all his movies lack that, do they all get bad reviews as well? I guess you could say you don't go to a malick movie looking for a good movie? lol, I'm just picking a bit.
I did see the trailer, and while visually stunning, I get the feeling there will be a lot of long scenes of visuals (apparently cosmic visuals, whatever that means) that will be very artistic and maybe moving, but little substance to back them up. Hard to tell from just a trailer, but booing at any film festival is not a good sign.

Their film got booed by all the people in the theater.

Inglorious Basterds was met with a cacophony of howls and boos at Cannes.
The reaction of insular critics and affected faux socialites doesnt mean shite on how a movie will be publically or historically viewed.
My own review forthcoming... I'm finding it hard to put its quality into words.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of The New World either. It was just so fricking boring, and I usually like films like that.
