Have NEVER known anywhere to buy them. Don't see them on trees either but there are only a couple that I know of and occasionally look at.

Use to have a place on Plank Rd across from Baton Rouge Raceway. Not sure if they still have them or not as that was 18 years ago

Best bream bait in the world. I wish they were sold more places.

I just wish I could find a tree that actually had them in it. When I was a kid, if you saw a catalpa tree it had worms in it. Now, the trees are way bigger than I remember and don't have any.

My FIL had some trees in his front yard, but they got taken out by a tornado a few years ago

My papaw had a few catalpa trees when I was a kid. They would be loaded every summer. We would kill the bream on em. Sadly he and the trees are gone now.

There is a bait shop in Walker that sells them. The name of the place is P'maws bait shack. They have a website if you want to check them out.

FIFY

I seriously don't know of a single freshwater fish that won't eat a catalpa worm.

Yeah, I was about to say blue and channel cat love 'em too.

What time of year do they usually come out? I know of some trees that have them, but I haven't caught them out on the trees in years and can't remember when it occurs.

I keep seeing these pop up on the OB, but what exactly are catalpa worms. Googling it just made it look like they're caterpillars? Or are they specifically the little green caterpillar looking things. Because I rarely see those, but I see a good bit of caterpillars

I start looking for them in my trees around mid June early July.

They are caterpillars, and I don't touch caterpillars, so I have never used them.

All the trees that had them when I was a kid have not had them in 15 years or more.

There are definitely a lot less at my house than when we built it, but at the same time we have 10 less oaks in my yard than we did back then as well. I saw a couple big patches of them in trees earlier this spring. We used them to fish one time when I was really young, but it must have been a bad day because we had no luck, I only vaguely remember it.

They are always yellow and black, but the pattern varies greatly. Some more yellow, than black... they all catch fish though.

They only feed on the leaves of the catalpa tree.

The catalpa trees are the only host for the catalpa sphinx moth. This moth larva - known as the catalpa worm -- devours the leaves of the tree and often completely defoliates the tree,

Well I still didn't know what I was talking about then. I haven't seen them before.

All catapillars are evil, poisonous and will kill you. I never get close to them on purpose.
