LSU should just stick with L.S.U. in the Geaux font as its main logo. No one can look at it and be confused as to what it is. It is what UCLA, Oklahoma, TCU and other other schools have done...

any picture of a mascot doesn't look good when shrunk to a small size...

It's not that it's great as much as it is that it's classic and we are all reminded of our childhood by it. They probably stopped using that Tiger around mid 80's or so, from what I remember. But it was on just about everything growing up as a kid.
That being said, the new Tiger sucks arse compared to even Popeye Tiger.

LSU's main trademarking guy came to my BLAW class this semester and said one of the reason LSU went away from the traditional tiger head that is on the helmets was because companies were having trouble printing the logo's small complicated details around the ears for example.
He also referred to the current one as Toonces

Changing the logo is about generating more revenue. If people increased purchases of licensed merchandise at a higher rate for the old logo versus the new one, the logo would never change.
The fact is that when logos change, revenues go up. Don't blame the school administrators. Blame the consumers who respond to new visualizations.

Alabama penis envy still thrives on this board.

Right, like Bama didn't have a little something to do with this train of thought.

That's usually the case. In LSU's case, it's hard to automatically make that case because the logo was changed in 2002 (as I recall) and LSU had just won the SEC for the first time in over a decade, and would win the NC the next year. Put another way, despite the fact that a great many tiger fans bitched about the logo from day one (I actually bitched about it from day -2 as I had gotten it e-mailed to me before the release) people bought tons of LSU products because the program was winning big time.
To this day, I think I have purchased 2 things with the new Tiger head on it, but have specifically sought out classic merchandise when available. that being said, I've always liked the Geaux font and thought they should have used it exclusively as a text logo rather than entire font class to be used all over. It takes away from when they simply use it for "LSU."
