My graduation present from the GF is a new pair of sunglasses. I always swore I would never jump on the frat boy look and get costas( I don't even know if im spellin it right, drunk and on my phone) but everyone I talk to says you can't beat Em. Should I get a pair? What kind? I'm an Oakley guy usually so this is a tough decision

Edit: fishing glasses is all I'm looking at

If you want fishing glasses get the costas. Green mirror lenses for inshore/freshwater, blue for offshore. Pick frames that for your fast the best. There are plenty of frames IMO that don't really look fratty if you're worried about it. I've had Oakleys, and IMO they don't come close. My costas are much more comfortable and the glass lenses>>>plastic lenses.

ETA Maui Jim make badass polarized glass lenses as well, but they're still "fratty" I guess and the cost is comparable to costa. Both make really quality fishing glasses and you wouldn't be disappointed with either.

I've never had problems with mine falling off, but I won't knock the Maui Jims. I bought my gf a pair and they are legit as hell

True. All depends on the frames I guess.

IDGAF when I got my current pair of costas, I tried on every frame academy had and the brine fit my face the best. TFM though

When I bought my gf's Mauis the sunglasses store chick said Maui are their best selling polarized sunglasses FWIW

Can't help you, Oakley guy here. Although I love these. Don't know the brand.

Eyecare and Eyewear are what I do for a living.

I recommend the Costas. Every year I have the Costa rep, maui jim rep, Oakley rep and a few others down to the camp in Venice and I test all their new products on the water.

Costas are IMO the best polarized lenses around. Maui Jim are nice, but WAY overpriced, and oakley you are buying a nice frame with crap for lenses. Solar bats aren't bad, Kaenon isn't bad, but I recommend Costas at the end of the day.

Is there a difference/advantage to the Costa glass lenses over the cr-39 'plastic' ones?

I've always purchased Costa cr-39's.

THe disadvantage of the CR-39 lenses is you can't get the 580 lens, only the wave 400. The wave 400 lenses are nice, but the wave 580 lenses are awesome and worth the difference in price.

Maui Jim ALL DAY LONG.

Never had any issues with lens delaminations and rubber/plastic frame separations with Maui Jims. I will never go back to Costas.

Maui Jim's all the way. Had a pair for two years that I wore daily. Started to wear in some places so I called Maui to see what they would charge to repair. Sent them back to Maui & they sent me a brand new pair of glasses. Awesome customer service. Not to mention I have not picked up my Costa's since I got my Maui's...

I go fishing offshore a good bit and I'll say this, I have seen many people wearing Costas out there, but maybe 1% wearing Maui Jims...

Costas are 1000x better for an active fisherman (especially offshore) than Jims are

I disagree, I like my Mauis more than my 580's. So much so that when I got my 580's back from having new lens in them because of delaminations, I use them for back up.(which means not at all)

It is all subjective anyway and you really can't go wrong with either brand.imo
