Should people living on Brightside prepare for the worst?

Such as moving valuable stuff to the 2nd floor and what not in case of the worst case scenario...or am I just overreacting a little.
How much trust can we put into a levee system that hasn't been testing like this. Supposedly the Levees during Katrina were supposed to hold...

I usually walk the levee there after work and it's pretty solid (concrete sections on the river side). Still there are some areas where the levee board and Corps are concerened about seepage, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to move your valuables upstairs.
It's much better to be safe by overreacting a little than lose all your stuff due to a random accident (like a barge getting loose and breaking the levee open).
If I lived there, I would already have all of my electronics upstairs.

Didn't a barge hit the levees?

While I think you have nothing to worry about, looking at LIDAR data most of Brightside sits around 22'. I don't think your second story would help you much.

They live on Brightside. How much worse could it honestly get?

That barge hit a cement levee if I'm not mistaken
and you can take the 130mph wind factor out also

The only places you really have to worry about that are the areas with docks (like the one across from Lake Beau Pre) or the Pinnacle construction site a few miles down. Most of the rest of the riverbank has enough trees and such which could possibly keep a barge from hitting the levee (depending on current, the barge's weight, etc).

Yeah, of course those trees would stop a barge

Not saying you're wrong, but could you elaborate on this? Are you implying that the expected river crest of 47.5' is 25.5' higher than Brightside?

This is a spot I'm worried about, being that there are barges there and little to no trees; right by Skip Bertman Drive

That's by the flags, right? Yeah, that place has me worried as well.

I haven't been up there since Sunday, how high up the levee is that?
