Mahtook's green light to steal a base

Should this be taken away? He's made some terrible decisions on the bases this year.......and every time I think its gonna stop, he does it again a couple games later.

Agree, terrible thinking on the bases. As good as he is, he makes a lot of wtf moments on the bases. Is he just trying to win it all by himself?

pretty much, but making the 3rd out at or between 3rd multiple times is pretty unforgivable

If anybody should have it it's mahtook, with that being said no one should have an automatic green light on the bases. That's what we pay coaches for, mahtook just doesn't read pitchers very well. To his credit though i think he just trying to carry the team.

I think its okay for certain guys, who are smart & fast on the base paths. But they are few are far between. With these new bats, hopefully its is emphasized a little more.

Hopefully he goes 3 for 3 stealing bases today because of this thread

Yes
Getting thrown out stealing 3rd with 2 outs is beyond inexcusable. It is deserving of being benched (obviously you can't bench Mahtook).
And for a guy who leads by example...

Getting caught stealing with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the hitter isn't nearly as bad as if he would have done that same thing with less than two outs. I like aggressiveness on the base paths, and I'm sure he thought he had him read and was just trying to make something out of nothing. I'd like to hope he would have the smarts not to try something like that with less than 2 outs.

It's not like we get a ton of hits with runners in scoring position. That said, i'd rather us hit and run more often in that situation and put the defense out of position.

I completely disagree. He's been a nightmare on the bases his entire career. Base running is simply the one aspect of the game he has yet to master.

Yet he leads the team in stolen bases. Like i said nobody should have the green light on the bases.

That's the dichotomy of Mahtook's career at LSU. He has the ability to swipe a bag almost at will and yet he's possibly the worst base runner I've seen here in a long time.

I am serious. Mahtook's been getting picked off bases since his freshman year. I would have to think long and hard to come up with a player's name from the past that had equal problems on the bases.
The guy is a great ball player. This is something he will have to work on at the next level.

Yes. No need at all to steal 3rd in that spot yesterday. Stealing 2nd with 2 outs and getting thrown out isn't a big deal, but what he did is an absolute rally killer.

He quite possibly could be the worst baserunner I've seen at LSU in a long while. He gets himself into these situations weekly, it's not an isolated incident.
And before you say anything, let me preface this by saying that just because he is fast doesn't make him a good baserunner. Many players at the major league level are considered great baserunners but only have average speed at best.

I don't have a problem with him stealing, but the fact is he was on second and arguably our best hitter Raph was up. Let Raph do something but instead he has to come up the next inning and start from scratch
