Are the weathers patterns and seasons shifting?

Me and my dad have been discussing this a little bit lately and I saw that Cadello mentioned it also in my earlier wind thread.

- March winds and now in Arpil
- We have freezing temperatures in March
- Ducks are coming in later and staying longer into the new year
- The rut seems to be AFTER deer season in some areas now

any chance if this keeps up that the seasons are pushed back a little bit in the future?

It's global warming.

2012 is the end. Seasons won't matter anymore.

Deer didn't even rut on our lease until after rifle season. Needless to say this was my last year there.

I have been thinking about this alot lately. It seems to be the trend and makes perfect sense to me, yet I never hear any "reputable" sources bring it up.

I've noticed this also. The weather has just not been normal this year. non-stop wind, some of the worst blizzards the midwest has ever seen, all the severe storms recently . Maybe it all has something to do with the magnetic poles shifting.

I really don't think so. It's been hot early in May the last two years. Feels like summer now and we aren't even to May yet.

It definitely seems to be windier than it use to be. Over the last 10 years it seems that way to me. We used to get a lot of days that the gulf was like glass but now they seem few and far between.

WLF has been discussing moving the season back in Area 6 since the rut is so late.

Haven't heard anything about other areas or duck season though.

I think that the reason for the duck change is because of the agriculture to the north of us, not climate caused. Check weather records for the last 100 years, it's basically the same. I also think that the deer rut may have moved later, to after the season in some cases, due to hunting pressure. This can happen be caused both enviornmentally(increased pressure, animals hide more/breed less) and genetically(animals that go into rut during the season are killed at a much higher rate than an animal that goes into rut after the season, causing genetic drift towards the animals that rut later due to their genes being transferred at a higher rate than the dead deer that rut when they're "supposed to"). I don't think that we have had any significant climate change in recent history. Just my 2 cents.

Hm...interesting.
I'd be curious if any birders know of more 'unusual' vagrant birds the last couple of years compared to 10, 20, 30, 100 years ago.
