I talked to my taxidermist that is mounting a fish for me. When I caught the fish it had some bite marks on it He informed me today that it was not a gar that did the damage it was a shark! I was in the tchefuncte river inside the city limits of Covington La.He said he talked to several other fishermen that he knows and the sharks are real bad this year. So fellow ob ers be careful out there.

Bull sharks exist in freshwater WELL inland. There are documented cases of bulls in the Mississippi River...in friggin' Illinois.

It is truly amazing that there hasn't been an attack in Louisiana fresh waters from a bull shark. It will happen. They have been in our fresh water systems before Columbus set sail in 1492. Bull sharks are an evolutionary miracle.

Not a wader, swimmer or water skier has been attacked. The odds say it will happen sooner rather than later.

Well I know now I'm never jumping in the water there.

FWIW, I hate launching at that place

what are you basing that on? if it hasn't ever happened there is no data to support that statement

True-it will happen. But if I were worried about sharks, gators, snakes, or amoeba I'd never be able to ski and enjoy boating.

The most fertile waters besides the Amazon in the western hemisphere. I would actually venture to say that people who have gone missing have been victims of bull sharks. I fear them a lot more than alligators in our local waters.

Sharks are known to come well into fresh water. A couple years back I saw a Dolphin above the New Bridge in Baton Rouge.

We have always caught small sand sharks and bulls in the lake, nothing new. The biggest being only 4-5ft, talked to a biologist ans he said while there may be a couple of bigger ones that they mostly stay closer to the coast in salter water. Bigger sharks that is.
