creole mustard is pretty much the best condiment on earth. I only discovered it a few years ago and I wondered how I lived without it

Eat as much fruit as you can stand. Can you eat berries blended? Protein shakes and Meal replacements can be a good way to lose some weight. You have to make them yourself with Yogurt, fruit, protein powder, and whatever else you want (I add ground flax and brown rice)

I just bought an immersion blender so maybe this is a possibility. I can't stand getting the regular blender dirty.

Eat vegetables every day. Stir Fry, Grilled, Steamed, just eat them. Zucchinis and Squash are very good for you. Eat color. Try to be gettings oranges, yellows, reds, and greens weekly.

Just picked up some yellow squash and bellpepper

Do you like leafy things?

Mainly just herbs. I could probably do an herb based salad with basil. I'm a big fan of caprese salads I just worry about consuming that much cheese in one sitting.

Salmon out of the can? I usually aim for at least a couple of seafood meals per week, doesn't matter what - salmon, crab, shrimp - just something.

I have some frozen salmon that's already seasoned from Sam's I've been meaning to dig into for a while. I'll give that a shot. I can't eat fish out of a can. I ate so much of it at one point in my life that it disgusts me.

Another good idea. I made the switch to skim as well. But start with yogurt too. Eat less cheese (hard to do).

Fortunately I don't eat much cheese right now so that should be an easy adjustment. Starting to eat yogurt might not be easy. I usually like the greek yogurt but I don't typically eat it alone.

Thanks for the detailed reply

Good call. Berries are good for you, eat them if you can find a way.

A good thing to do is just eat steamed vegetables and a meat for dinner. And a small after dinner snack to curb your cravings. Popcorn is a good choice (lightly salted only of course). Yogurt and something can ease a sweet tooth. Trail Mix too.

Perfect. Just pair it with something healthy. Heck I go through spurts of yogurt and dark chocolate chips. It's not ice cream, but it works and keeps me from going out and getting a half gallon.

Neauxla's list is a good start too.

In case anyone cares this is what I picked up

Produce:

Onions
Bellpeppers
Squash
Tomatoes
Garlic
(These are just normal staples in my house)

Protein:
I went ghetto and picked up this buy any 5 for 19.95 garbage they had at rouses:
Chicken legs
Turkey
Breaded chicken breasts (figure I'll be ok as long as I bake them)
2 packs of lean stew meat

Also picked up a pack of boneless skinless chicken thighs (with no antibiotics LOL)

Picked up 4 different types of beans. I like beans but if I eat the same kind all the time I'll go crazy. Got lima, butter, navy, and refried black.

Dairy: Just a gallon of skim milk. I meant to pick up some little cheese stick snacks for work but I forgot.

And picked up some bran cereal

My breakfast is plain low fat greek yogurt (150 cal per cup, massive amount of protein) with about half a tub of assorted berries from whole foods (which is the best fruit I've ever eaten its just stupid fresh) with a ~1/3 cup of grape nuts (fiber) and some agave honey (by the checkout at WF, they got me). It may sound gross but sometimes I throw some peanut butter in there too. I think its great.

Yeah I have a ton of frozen broccoli that I need to steam and move out of the freezer to make room so I'll try to go through that for dinner this week.

I have some of those yoplait 100 calorie things still lingering in my fridge that could suffice as a dessert. I don't know if I should avoid those after I consume them because of the refined sugar though. I'm thinking maybe some plain yogurt with a drizzle of honey and maybe cinnamon or nutmeg might be better?

Yeah ice cream is one of my vices

If I didn't eat ice cream, fried chicken, mexican food, drink too much chocolate milk and wasn't a raging alcoholic and actually exercised I'd probably be in good shape already.

When I'm in weight-loss mode I focus mostly on breakfast and lunch because they seem like the easiest meals to cut back on. Breakfast will either be some granola bars and fruit, or maybe oatmeal... and black coffee. It's usually around 200 calories and honestly I should probably eat more calories for breakfast and then less for dinner, but that just doesn't seem to work for me.

Lunch will be a simple sandwich with some lean meats, fat-free cheese and whole wheat bread, can usually keep it around 300 calories.

For low-cal dinners, looks like a lot of people are giving similar advice... lean meats and veggies. Baked chicken breast, grilled shrimp, fish, even a lean-cut pork chop or two to mix it up. Stubb's BBQ sauce is one of the lowest in calories I've found so often with chicken and pork I'll add some to spice it up. I'm not a big veggie fan but I do like carrots so I usually eat them as a side or as a snack when I get home from work.

by Julieta Ramos-Elorduy, Ph.D.
with photography by Peter Menzel

The most wholesome source of protein on earth cannot be found in any supermarket in the United States, but it can be found right in your backyard! Insects have been a staple of almost every indigenous culture, not only because of their delicious flavor but also because they provide a more complete protein than soy, meat, or fish, and are concentrated sources of calcium, niacin, magnesium, potassium, the B-vitamins, and many other nutrients.

As the world heads for food shortages in the next century, insects can help meet humanity's growing nutritional needs. Creepy Crawly Cuisine tells you everything you need to know to make insects a part of your diet. It includes an overview of the use of edible insects by indigenous cultures, information on where to obtain insects and how to store and prepare them, and over 60 gourmet recipes, complete with stunning color photographs, that let you take the cooking of insects to dazzling culinary heights. As practical as it is unique, Creepy Crawly Cuisine is the ideal gift for followers of the Diet for a Small Planet, adventurous epicures, and cooks who think they have seen it all.. 1998. 150 pages.

I wonder if I should do atkins. I could really do without carbs for about 6 weeks or so.

With your description, you sound like a good candidate for Atkins. Can't eat fruit until like week 5 or 6.. but then you still can't have oranges and shite like that so idk. Just berries. You can have all the red meat, chicken, and fish that you can eat. You can use real butter and other fats to cook with as long as there are no trans fats and it's real animal fats. etc

I'd advise you to either research it online or ask CAD and Myth about it and see if they agree with me. Definitely do some research though.

I like low sugar oatmeal with peanut butter in it. U can even make pancakes with oatmeal packets. Just add one egg, one eggwhite, some vanilla and honey. Cook like a pancake. I like to turn garbanzo beans into hummus so I can dip my veggies in. Makes eating raw veggies more tolerable. Dinner is just very simple meat and cooked veggies. I drink over 100oz of water a day too. The key, which sucks, is to not eat at restaurants.

Oh another thing I do is when I'm craving dessert I'll eat one of those jello mousse temptations with the smallest spoon I have. They are delicious and only have 60 calories.

Preseasoned foods often have tons of sodium. Buy some fresh/frozen and season them yourself.

I could be wrong but I don't think Atkins is an "all you can eat" plan.

No one said sweet potato? If you miss potatoes, substitute them with sweet potatoes. A normal baked potato is really high on the glycemic index/load.

Also, go get fish oil from SAMs club. They are cheap when buying in bulk. Studies have shown correlation between fat loss and taking fish oil which is packed with omega 3s. Plus you just take 3 pills a day and don't have to work hard for the benefits.

I've been making these for lunch and they're absolutely awesome:

98% fat free wheat wrap
Low sodium oven roasted turkey
Low fat Swiss
A little bit of low fat ranch
Sriracha
Spinach
Avocado
Onions
Fresh jalapeño
Grape tomatoes

Another thing I eat at least once a week for dinner is chicken curry, made with skim milk. It's quick and easy and is great leftovers.

How old is the fish oil? I started recently taking some fish oil that I've had for a while and ended up burping nasty fish all day.

But if you got the kind that says "no fishy after taste" they should be ok.
