Two questions for the LC/Barbe folks:
1. Didn't Tulane stop recruiting Barbe players for similar reasons or am I thinking of someone else?
2. How many baseball players from Barbe has LSU recruited in the last 10-15 years and how many have made it to campus?

I have known that boy since "before he was born". No way he forgoes MLB.
Barbe HS starts four freshmen and another subs in and another pitches. These guys play football and only this year gave up basketball and track. I think that they are in the best class of athletes ever enrolled in the history that school.

He signed in August, correct? And he decommitted before the baseball season started. So what games is he bitching about not being invited to? Football games?

From Perfect Games Website:

Barbe (LA) lost as much talented as anyone in the country last year. Garin Cecchini, Hommy Rosado, and Kevin Berard were selected in the MLB draft, while Brandon Broussard and Paul White are now playing at LSU-Eunice and Ouachita Baptist Christian.
Barbe has come back strong in 2011 with their only losses coming 3-2 against #14 Catholic, and 7-4 against Parkview Baptist and Auburn commit Colin Rodgers. The key has been SSGavin Cecchini who took a big part of the offensive load last year when older brother Garin was sidelined with a knee injury. Cecchini has been on fire this year and is helped by arguably the best freshman class in the nation led by Kennon Fontenot and Trey Quinn. Coach Glenn Cecchini can also count on the arms of Taylor Butler, Sam Smith along with 2B Jared Foster to provide the pitching and leadership needed to overcome their losses.

Not my words, but from people who follow this stuff for a living.

I just want to see some of these guys in Purple and Gold, that is my motivation here. I will leave it up to you all to speculate if Quinn will be a football guy or a baseball guy, if somebody chooses another school, whose at fault, etc. That is the same freshman class we saw on TV at the LLWS, and I want a shot at them.

I seem to remember quite a few LSU shirts in the crowd during that LLWS. I think a lot of these kids grow up being LSU fans and will be no matter what their coach says. My high school coach was an all american at Texas and was always praising them but I would have played at LSU if given the choice between the 2.

can't blame him, he's invested time and money into these kids based on their word and got nothing in retur

See, this is such bullshite. PM has come off as an a-hole just about everytime LSU kids and the draft is mentioned.

he gives kids this date to where he has to know if they come to LSU or not. Which is a horrible way to treat these kids. It is their future, it is their life. How can you force that? The MLB and college baseball has their dates for a reason. But for some reason it isnt good enough for Paul Manieiri?

Look, don't recruit these kids in the first place if you can't handle what he has to know is inevitable. He comes off as such a whiny bitch and it infuriates me. As much as he has to look out for LSU, the kids have to look out for themselves. It's sad to see a man of integrity like PM not realize this.

So Cecchini came off his demands slightly? Who cares. I really hope he didnt stop recruiting his brother because of this or cut off ties with Barbe. I know father Cecchini is a douche, but come on.

you realize the dad is the coach?

and up until this point Barbe's best kids have gone everywhere EXCEPT to LSU.

Tulane, Bama, Ole Miss has gotten Barbe's best prospects the last 15 years.

you land the committment of BOTH of the coaches son and you totally frick that up, and you don't think it can burn bridges that really werent there to begin with? ha ok

Look, everybody here realizes the status of LSU baseball right now is down. Well, here is a perfect example of why. PM invests, time, money, and SCHOLARSHIPS to these aholes who use us as leverage in their negotiations.

We are pissed cause LSU is down....well the reason it is down is because we are left at the alter too often. And in this clown's case, we were left at the alter by a series of lies.

What a bunch of bitches. So now every player that you sign in baseball that goes pro "flat out lies" to the coaching staff. He said it would take 1.75 and he took 1.3. Dude got first round money and he's the bad guy? How many players has Manieri signed that later lost their scholarship and had to transfer? Don't act like baseball coaches are little choir boys.

News flash. If you get first round money then you take first round money. It's not much of a decision. If you don't want the risk then don't recruit those players. But don't trash the player and family for doing what is best for them. Is it really that bad to change your mind and come out on the other side a millionaire?

Give me a break

By all means enlighten me.

And as a side note is it possible to have a conversation about sports with an LSU fan without the LSU fan turning it into a dick measuring contest and thinking that by the very fact that they are an LSU fan (likely due proximity to the school rather than the diploma from it) that you are a better person to me?

And it seems I've got right the only relevant portion of the story. Y'all are pissed because a guy got paid 1.31 million dollars to play professional baseball instead of go to LSU. Throw in a bunch of but but but he said blah blah blah and I've got the story.

Cecchini is much closer with Rick Jones than PM. Cecchini has helped with the Tulane camp at times. I always thought it was funny how Cecchini was committed to LSU considering the ties to the Tulane program. I always thought that it was b/c LSU provided better leverage in contract negotiations. He may have gone to LSU if he got offered like 500,000, but I think he knew it was win win with a committment to LSU and Tulane didn't offer that.

A couple years ago I went to see barbe play Jesuit in the state championship and garin cecchini and his dad showed zero class. The dad argued the stupidest calls while making a fool out of himself and garin almost started a fight. I wouldn't want anybody from that family representing LSU

Cecchini's nephew went to Tulane, and got drafted in the 3rd round after his junior year.

The disagreement between Jones and Cecchini was over how pitchers are handled, nothing to do with taking MLB money or going to college. It was on TV and internet.

I am not worried about LSU being attractive to the Barbe kids, I am a biased LSU alumni who thinks it doesn't get any better than our campus! I just hope PM is the one who leaves the door open. Not sure yet if any of those freshman will be 1st round MLB material like the Cecchini boys, but they are already on other college's radar and I can easily see them being very good college players and the kind we can get if we make the effort. Would like to have the chance to atleast get a few of them.

I cant believe yall are actually defending Maineri. Its easy for someone who is already a millionaire to tell somebody else to turn down some money. He shouldnt pressure these kids to give them a deadline, and they shouldnt have to give him a number it would take for them to sign. He sounds like a winey bitch.

and it is not PM job on the line as well in trying to keep this program going, GTFO! If that whinny little bitch wants to go to Ole Piss, good for him. Go there and keep your mouth shut about LSU. There was no need for him to try and throw LSU under the bus. Just say it did not work out and that is that. I have heard from more than one person that the Cecchini family is full of themselves.
