Where?

Supposedly Chinese Combo King but it was not open when I lived there.
I never found a good chinese place in BR.
If someone tells you Nine Dragon, they are LYING.

My favorite picture menu place is China Star at the corner of Bluebonnet and Burbank. I also like PF Changs. That's right I said it. I don't think I've ever had authentic Chinese, but I eat the shite out of the Americanized stuff.

Yeah i've come to the same conclusion. Nine dragon's only good if you're eating on the cheap. Combo king kinda sucks. I'm looking for a nicer restaurant but there seem to be none to be found

There is no good chinese in BR. The only thing different than the standard sysco supplied chinese food is Combo King, which is slightly different but the same premise. No actual chinese sit down restaurant exists really.

Check out Hong Kong on Millerville. They have the best sesame seed chicken I have ever had.

I don't get it. Are you saying there's no difference between any of the picture menu, take out places?

Sorry DF. Was referring to the frustration of not having a decent authentic Chinese joint in BR and was directed toward the tendencies of people to think that Chinese food = sweet sour chicken, which isn't really even Chinese.
And yes, there is a huge difference because I pass up one within walking distance to frequent at least three others.

Good Chinese(BR)
oxymoron
Chinese Inn circa 1977 to 1995ish(Fla Blvd & later Airline Hwy), before being sold by MK Wong and family to cousins, was BR's lone true flirtation with said subject.

Does Hunan hold no clout?

I like Hunan. Perhaps not spectacular but better than most in the city. I've heard Dim Sum is good but never made it that way.

Hunan vacillates to me, always has for decades. At times they can bring it off the menu(non-buffet), when focused back there, it's repeating it with true consistency that has always miffed me.
Loved Taste of Asia's fractional 1/3rd menu when it was open, but they were proud in portion per price.
Royal Hawaiian in Esplanade Mall and later on Jefferson Hwy for small while in 1980s and early 90s, could do some solid fare along with those wicked mai tais.

Dim Sum, much like Hunan, has always vacillated in consistency, even down to the hours and days run or closed(re: the Pinetta's folks visiting the old country for a few weeks in summer)..
When on, and opened, they win the BR shu mai and har gow,etc..categories hands down..yet also technically by default.
It seems they've recently refocused some effort, maybe the younger next generation of the family? New owners? I'm gonna give them some biz this summer.

Paul Wong in the Main Street Market is above average.
Good quick lunch service.

What's frustrating is that there are Chinese restaurant owners in Baton Rouge who know how to cook some fantastic and authentic grub, but resort to the safe Chinese fare probably due to the audience. I can recall a handful of times when I've eaten in these generic Chinese places (they seem to all have their menus with the same 100 items printed at the same place that simply changes the restaurant heading) mid-afternoon during a down time or late at night, and the owners would sit at an adjacent table and enjoy what looked to be the best menu option in the house, but alas, it's their home cooking not offered to the general public. I'd look down at my plate and then glance over at this beautifully prepared whole deep fried red snapper or duck or exotic ingredients that you wouldn't normally see in BR Chinese restaurants like baby bok choy, hokkigai (surf clam), or anything else that the owners are supping on, and can't help but think that I'd gladly rather pay more $ for what they're eating than anything they offer on the menu.

I went to the market Saturday morning around 9:30 with two others, and it smelled really good, but was too early for me(don't get hungry before noon), I bought a Diet Coke from Wong's..
Is he related to MK, Kit,etc..the BR Wong family?

I feel like we had sweet n sour pork almost every day while I was in China. It was different from the american stuff for sure, but it was sweet n sour.
The sauces definitely weren't as sweet as they are here.

Years ago, Ding How in Nawlins had just said fish dishes and aquariums full of fish, was a chinese people dive with few laowai, with good ownership, but it's went downhill since.
When I lived in H-Town, you could eat just like what you described, at Fung's Kitchen, Auntie Chang's, and other assorted I-59 dives along Fondren, Bellaire, etc..
