LSU Baseball's Cupcake Pre-SEC Schedule

I'm not saying this is why we're 1-5 in SEC play, but why did we schedule Princeton, Sacred Heart, and Holy Cross?
I don't have a problem with playing in-state schools, because Louisiana in-state schools are usually really good, but the weekend series sucked, save for CSF. Also, it's no surprise we sucked on the road this weekend because, this was our first time leaving the state of Louisiana!!!
Hopefully next year we'll schedule a weekend roadie against a somewhat respectable opponent before SEC play begins. And the less Ivy League/Sisters of the Poor/DeVry I see on the schedule, the better.

Only ones who want to come down here without a return trip?
LSU baseball makes too much money at home games to be giving away free ones on trips to big programs that would come down here early in the season.

Schedule teams that will play LSU at pro stadiums to help with the attendance problem like Rice.

just about any LA school would come here without a return trip, save Tulane.
shite and that would be scrapping the barrel. There are many teams in southern states that would come here without return trips. TX has tons of teams. Florida as well. And even MS and AL have some schools that could give us better games. Thats not even dipping into the Carolinas and Kentucky
if you are going to schedule bad teams, at least hit on some warm weather programs that can practice outdoors before March

Yeah that is pretty nuts how LSU played no LA or MS teams before the SEC schedule this year.

7 of SELU's first 8 games were on the road.
you cant tell me a weekend series vs them would have been more beneficial than the teams we played up until CSF

I don't know how bad Wake Forest is. They beat FSU pretty bad in the Saturday game, even though they lost the other 2.

Well damn. We played CSF.
In 09 we didn't play anybody worth anything and it didn't hurt us at all.
It really isn't that important in baseball.

I agree with you. We would just have more losses.

I agree with this. Many people I respect disagree and think we need to be more battle tested when the SEC slate starts. I don't think it is that important. We might find out what kind of team we have earlier, but it does not affect the team in the long run IMO.

we lost 2 of 3 vs ILL at home
i dont remember how good they were, but at least the team was humbled somewhat before it mattered

This is why I advocate it. That, and it's better for the fans. I think it would help in the long run to find the deficiencies in your everyday lineup earlier than the first weekend in SEC play.

Illinois was not that great--not more so than Fullerton or Wake. I guess they shouldn't have tried going for the sweep in those 2 series.

They went 34-20. Not terrible.

Wake Forest is actually pretty bad this season. People have seen their couple of good looking wins, but they're still 8-15. Florida State still took 2/3 and they were crushed in the two losses.

I understand this position certainly, but I don't agree. Again, many people I know agree with you.
