This is a topic that me and my buddies have always talked about while killing time at the camp. What you the rest of yall think the best parish in Louisiana is for the average sportsman? I think Union Parish takes is the best. It has several areas for public hunting and fishing. Most of the property leased out isn't going to kill your pocket book either.

Plaquemines FTW! You have Venice, what else do you need?

Rapides
Just not enough diversity in the southern parishes.
Rapides you have freshwater fishing, all kinds of hunting from every type of landscape, from hardwood bottoms, river bottoms, piney woods, hills, farmland, etc.
You always have a huge tract of public land in Kisatchie National Forest, which has the longest trail system in the state for backpacking, hiking, mountain bike riding, etc.
Then you also have that it is located in the center of the state. So you have access to the parishes in the south with their inshore and offshore fishing.
And you have have access to Toledo Bend, Red Dirt Reserve, and the hardwoods of the northern parishes.

Overall hunting and fishing, Tensas, Madison, or Concordia. Probably with Tensas on top.
Huge deer, world class duck hunting, great fishing and recreational lakes. Also, doves, rabbit, squirrel, turkeys, pigs, gators, and whatever else you want to shoot.

For me it would be Terrebonne or Lafourche

I think for the balance of fishing (fresh and salt), crabbing, hunting, etc., St. Tammany would be a pretty strong contender. Probably not great in most of the categories, but pretty good in most.

Claiborne is good. Tensas or Concordia are the best.

I'm going to have to go with southern parishes. The fishing in nothern Louisiana isn't even in the same category as south Louisiana. And you can kill just about anything but turkeys.
I was born in Venice and fished/hunted my whole life down there. Just some of the species I have hunted/fished:
Hunted
Whitetail deer 175-220lb deer and I have seen some 120-130's killed down there and even a low 140. Deer in the marsh are only small when they are young.
Hogs- they are everywhere. Killed 5 in one day in the stand.
Gators- Some of the best habitat for gators. There is no where near the gators in north louisiana compared to south Louisiana.
Geese- Have killed over 50 geese in a blind several times.
Ducks- Some regular species down there, pintails, canvasbacks, gray ducks, widgeon, teal, summer mallards, greenhead mallards, etc. Basically "everything" except wooducks and we have even killed that down there but seldom.
Nutria, otters, beavers, some of the best rabit hunting in the state, etc.
Fishing
There is not many places that compare to fishing like the Venice area. The diversity is crazy there and it was the #1 commercial finfishing area in the country before all the regulations in commercial fishing.
There is no way you northern boys can compete with the above when it comes to diversity. And I have hunted in the north several times. Prefer it for deer hunting because deer can get bigger antlers but I never leave Venice without any meat to take home.
