NFL to be more aggressive with suspensions for illegal hits next season. Rules defining defenseless players expanded to eight categories:

• QB in act of throwing
• Receiver trying to catch pass
• Runner in grasp with forward progress stopped
• Player fielding punt or kickoff
• Kicker or punter during kick
• QB after change of possession
• Receiver who receives blind-side block
• Player already on ground

da frick?

You can't hit a QB throwing or a WR catching?

Wow. Honestly, most of the people calling this a sissy league are annoying BUT they are trying to make the game "too safe". At some point, they gotta figure out some of the dangerous parts are the better parts.

So how are you supposed to play defense? Looks like you have to hope like hell you sack the QB before he starts throwing or get a clean pick before it gets to the receiver. Won't every offensive team now just be able to throw a hail mary every play since you can't hit the QB while throwing or mess with the receiver?

If these rules pass, I hope the NFL gets locked out for good. I won't watch a single NFL game if this goes through.

I would rather go play two hand touch in the park, it would be the same thing. Except I'm not getting paid millions of dollars to do it

If it's close to the ball, there is nothing wrong with this.

Charles Martin bodyslamming Jim McMahon = bad
Saint player decleating Kurt Warner = football

I really don't think they are proposing anything different than what is in place. The penalties would change from fines to suspensions for flagrant penalties.

That's taking it too far to me. That would make players afraid to try for a strip-fumble because they might get penalized. I mean really. If the ball hasn't left his hand I'm sorry but to me he's fair game.

I do agree with this though. I wouldn't want some punks ripping Drew Brees' head off after an interception just because they can.

These:

• QB in act of throwing
• Receiver trying to catch pass
• Player fielding punt or kickoff

are fricking moronic.

++++++++++++++++

These:

• Kicker or punter during kick
• QB after change of possession

only make sense if the kicker/QB is required by rule to immediately run to the sideline (i.e., off the field). Otherwise, they should be treated like any other player on the field.

++++++++++++++

This one:

• Receiver who receives blind-side block

makes no fricking sense.

I don't agree with the hitting the quarterback one, but have no problem with the others. Maybe defensive backs will start making a play on the ball rather than just lighting up receivers. The league is doing its players a favor with these rules.

Defensive players will promptly bitch about this out of one side of their mouth and ask for better retirement/health benefits out of the other.
