I do agree with you, however, Pryor's actions did not equal Perilloux's. Perilloux deserved to get kicked off because he had been in trouble time after time. Pryor, at least to my knowledge (I don't follow OSU too much) has not been in trouble year after year.
But yes, I like that Miles set a tone by kicking off Perilloux.
Pryor got into a lot of trouble since coming to OSU... I think the RP vs TP comparison is a fair one
Although as far as I can tell RP was kicked off the team for being disruptive to the team by breaking team rules. I don't know enough to say whether TP has had a similar effect at OSU

Tressel is 106-22 at Ohio State. Most of the Miles supporters point Miles overall record at LSU out obsessively. Tressel has 8 ten win seasons. Personally I think Championships (division, conference, national) trump wins but I am in the minority on the Rant.

Thanks for your contribution to the thread.

He gave Perilloux like 5 chances before finally kicking him off the team.
He gave RP chances because he was hoping he would mature as a person---BUT when it came time for the future of the team LM made the right decision knowing that RP was not prepared to lead the team.
JT might get saved by the vest---so innocent looking in the sweater vest.

Honestly, this is the most rediculously flawed comparison i've ever seen. Bad stuff happens at every major university. I applaud Miles for kicking Perriloux off the team, but the reality of the situation is that Miles could not have allowed him to stay on the team. He would have been ineligible. He failed a drug test. Who's to say Miles wouldn't have let him stay on the team had he not failed that drug test? Miles was forced to kick him off the team and in every other circumstance in which he didn't have to give him the boot, he didn't.
If you want to compare the coaches just pull up the big10 vs sec criminal records article from SI. Theres plenty of good stuff right there showing how clean the program is under Miles versus Big 10 coaches including none other than Joe Paterno. The RP thing, however, is just rediculous. He had no choice.

There's this about the probation he had a Youngstown State, Maurice Clarette, and Troy Smith. All that were with pay to play going on.
Think I remember hearing either Troy or Robert Smith say in an offhand way that players had been selling there gear there for years.

It doesn't have to be Miles/LSU then, but the situation with Perilloux comes to mind pretty quickly. Star QB with issues. BTW, serious question- what is the penalty for failed drug test? There have been several cases over the years, I don't think it was automatic ineligibility. Not NCAA-wise at least.

If RP had been at Florida and he once again got into trouble I don't think Urban Meyer would of given him the boot. My point is give Miles some credit. To say, "he had no choice" side steps the difficulty of the situation. LSU had no viable backup QB. Just had to give my 2 cents.
Good thread. A lot of good points are made.

my memory is very old and unreliable, but,
i remember rp's mom was trying to get money out of lm and lm didn't want a cam situation.
lsu and the negamiles could have had r.p./cam and maybe a n.c., but, with sanctions and loss of crystal ball, and loss of integrity.

Unless of course those conference championships are in an overrated, can't-win-in-January conference.

I don't know what planet you are living on. Some of you think that LSU is different from all the other schools. They are all the same. Lying is one of the skills coaches must learn. That is the part I dislike. Promise everything to the players and parents. We should close this thread. Never mention RP and his deals which would probably make Cam look clean. This is Louisiana, remember.

Nice summation. Totally agree.

getting back on subject a little, what will be the fallout of this at Tosu?
seems pretty obvious to me that there is a good chance:
1) OSU could have to forfeit/vacate their 2010 wins since they were played with 5-6 ineligible players (that OSU had prior knowledge of, no less)
2) this email correspondent with Tressle last April was a defense attorney representing the tattoo parlor guy. That should result in some kind of hearing for the attorney who obviously violated attorney-client privilege by telling all that to Tressel.
3) Tressel gets a punishment handed down from the NCAA more severe than the silly response OSU is giving. 2 games against Akron/Toledo.
4) possible lack of institutional control?

NCAA...lack of institutional control is levied against an AD. Press makes that up for coaches. Presidents have been blamed, also. Tressel simply got caught. NCAA is going to be forced into doing something to Tressel, as his crimes are now too public.

I guess the point I meant was this- he did cut him loose, before it harmed the program in an NCAA-specific way (which was likely to come).
Can't you just see RP having a solid season before he goes pro and ends up doing something like taking money and benefits from an agent before he left school.

Miles beat Tressel head to head.

Les smells trouble with his star QB (Perilloux), and kicks him off the team in the spring with no viable backup in place.
He gave Perilloux like 5 chances before finally kicking him off the team.
Four:
(1) Having acquaintances from his hometown who were being investigated for possible counterfeiting.
(2) Using his brother's ID to try to enter a casino.
(3) Being outside on the street in front of a campus bar while a fight ensued inside.
(4) Not communicating that he left campus after a family member's death after the 2008 NC game.
