will we ever (or any time soon) see this happen in movie theaters?

we've recently seen the advent of ads in addition to previews before the feature presentation. what is keeping cinemas and/or production companies from trying this?

i'm sure there would be a backlash from movie-going audiences, but Americans have shown time and time again that they rarely change their habits even in the face of being ripped off.

That would piss me off but i could probably get used to it. A 10-15 second commercial like you get when using Pandora wouldn't be too bad as long as its not at a crucial time in the movie.

For long arse movies I could possibly see them adding an intermission with commercials, buttttt.....

They hate long movie run times because they can show fewer runs per day so I doubt we need to worry about commercials during movies.

Plus they already show 45 minutes of adds at the start now.

frick that noise. I'd much rather a 5 minute intermission than little 15 second blips every 30 minutes. At least you could go piss during the inconvenience.

no way any major director would allow that in the contract.... not going to happen. Only possibility is during an intermission, but i dont recall one of those since the Godfather III

Gods and Generals (run time: 214 minutes) had an intermission.

I would think some of the revenue of the commercials would offset ticket prices.

ETA: I actually don't think it's a bad idea on the face of it, at least for movies after, say, their third or fourth week. Drop ticket prices, make it a 10 minute intersession (people can use bathroom). It's not a bad idea, really.

went and saw Hitch in Mexico years back. They had an intermission right in the middle of the movie. Really wasn't that bad. Not much difference than an intermission in musical/play/opera. The big difference is that movies aren't made with the intent of having a 10 minute break for the viewer.

If this ever caught on, I wonder if movies would start having cliff hangers and such right before the intermissions.

Kung Pow had an intermission and it is one of the greatest films of all time.

"Go get some snaaacks. I hope they have ICEES!! I've got some yellow liquid for your popcorn... and it's non-dairy."

I loved Kung Pow, It is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. It had so much stupid humor that made it really funny to me. I can see why a lot of people didn't like it, but I thought it was a good parody movie.

The first time I see one, will be the last time I see a movie in a theater.

see, this is the same kind of thing Americans said before Anheuser-Busch was sold to a Belgian company. "I'll never buy another Bud Light if this happens."

of course none of them delivered on their threats and business is still booming.

The average Bud drinker is dumb.

I'm already not a fan of going to the theater to see a movie, I've got a nice big HDTV and 7.1 surround sound in my living room. All I need is one more reason not to go. Commercials inside a movie would be enough.

A little product placement, I'm ok with. Stopping a movie and breaking immersion is not ok.
