You would have thought Phil would have watched the LSU vs Tenn game.

Howard should have taken it a step futher and said, "You will see 3 of the worse QB's in SEC History...to start a ball game!"

I can't think of a more unjustifiable QB benching in football history.

It was amazing how Simms tore up the Baylors and Techs of the world but showed the ability of Matt Nordgren when he played OU and CU.

Simms held the ball so long he tricked NFL scouts into thinking Roy Williams OU was athletic.

Didn't he get all pissy a couple of years ago when Steve Young said something about his older kid.

Simms airs out gripe on Young's comments
By Michael McCarthy, USA TODAY
CBS sportscaster Phil Simms blasted ESPN's Steve Young on Monday as a football dilettante who shouldn't question the physical or mental toughness of his son Chris Simms, quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The war of words between the former Super Bowl MVPs erupted after Young, appearing on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown, questioned whether Chris Simms had the "mental toughness" to handle the "information overload" of the NFL after growing up in a "laissez-faire" atmosphere."

"When you follow football one day a week it's hard to know much what is going on," Simms said about Young.

Simms, the former New York Giants quarterback turned lead football analyst for CBS, added he won't stand for Young questioning his 25-year-old son's mental toughness.

"He didn't grow up in a laissez-faire atmosphere. Far from it. Come to my house and live with me and we'll see how laissez-faire it is," Simms said. "I don't know how Steve Young lives his life, but I don't live mine that way. And I didn't raise my kids that way.

"You can say whatever you want about my son. The one thing that will get me mad — and I'll stand in your face about it — is about toughness.

Young told USA TODAY his comments were misunderstood and that he planned to call Simms. While Young declared he was "not a believer" in Chris Simms during NFL Countdown, he also praised him as a promising QB with a "future in the league."

"What I meant was the generational gap between guys my age and Phil's age and today's generation," explained Young, the former San Francisco 49ers star who entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.

"It had absolutely no impact on how Phil raised his son. I'd let Phil raise my son. He can literally raise my two sons right now. I trust Phil implicitly."

Young also said Chris Simms "raised his game to another place" in the Bucs' 30-27 win vs. Atlanta

This is just another sign of the weakening of our country. You, as a qb of a team that is a media darling are in the spotlight. You are going to get criticized, period, end of discussion. If Simms the elder is going to get his panties in a wad every time someone criticizes one of his kids he might as well retire right now.

why the frick do we have people on air, or commentators even if no one is allowed to say anything? God I hate this.

We get mad when people are boring and droll, and then we get mad when someone actually gives their opinion. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. There's nothing wrong with this comment is there?

I mean if you take it to Bayless level you suck but that's cause he's a hack, Desmond just put out what might have been a fact.

oh I go the complete opposite way on that.

Don't get me wrong Simms is in the wrong completely, but irrationally wanting to fight someone bc they gave an opinion against your kids you don't like is much better than being all "Its ok son, sticks and stones... but names will never hurt you"

If Howard walked up to him and said "Hey Phil your kid sucks" then sure I can see any father standing up for his son.

If Phil is mad about something Howard said on Gameday months ago, then he needs to get over it and stop acting like a bitch.

Yes, Phil Simms is the barometer by which we measure the "toughness" of our country...

I saw this come across my Twitter account around 1 today and was lmao. As much as I think Desmond is an arse clown, Phil proves to be one of the biggest dick bags in all of sports year by year. Too bad the cops stepped in and broke it up. I would've loved to see Desmond beat him down.

Because Desmond called Simms' kid that plays at UT one of the worst quarterbacks in the SEC.

Good thing his son never ran into Parcells

He would have been a lot nastier than Desmond
