I thought they were supposed to lose scholarships? Just wondering.

I think it has to do with them hoping they win the appeal.
Or they'll just have to sign like 10 kids next year.

should read all the other threads that have mentioned it.....

Reductions don't go into place until the appeal is ruled on (so next year). Because of the guys who left, they were able to bring in 8 early enrollees plus a full class of fall enrollments

Thank you.
Was the bowl ban only one year? I forget.

2. They decided to just serve the bowl ban and get it over with while waiting on the scholarships

Spreading it out was a good plan even if the appeal doesn't go through.
Plus the fact they weren't great this year helped in accepting the bowl ban.

yea. I don't think anyone was that upset, including many of the players probably, about not playing in the Sun or Fight Hunger Bowl

The funny thing is, because the Pac 10 sucked (but still got 2 BCS teams) you guys probably would have been in a pretty good bowl. I mean, it still makes sense to just accept the ban since you wouldn't have made the BCS (and could tell before the season), but you probably would have been in something that's at least a little prestigious, like the Holiday.

As I stated in another thread the 75 scholarship limit is going to be a huge problem with the size on this class. They only lose 13 seoniors after this year so USC may be looking at some seriously small classes in the next couple of years.
Or they could just play the Nick Saban game and cut playing who are underforming so they can still sign their allotment of 15 a year.

SC was so far below the 85 limit this year that they really needed to stock up on bodies this year to soften the blow for later, even if it means small classes. If they hadn't, it would have been disasterous

If there's ever a time to oversign, it's while on probation

As was already said, they have had some transfers more than usual and i'm sure the typical dropouts.
It will be interesting to see how many they get to sign next year. Ohio State only has around 15-17 schollies to give out next year...

The shollie reduction is at 20 and Pete often took less than 20. They are hopinng to get five back. Thee is also attrition, such as players leaving early or leaving the team. We'll be fine with size until the last year. Then after that we are back to loading up with 30+.

If a player is not making the cut, I am sure the option will be to 1) transfer or 2) be cut.

quote:This is the biggest reason why they were able to sign 30 players. Guys like Seantrel Henderson signed with USC but didn't end up attending because the NCAA let them out of their LOI because of the sanctions.

In reality, their 2011 class was only 22-25 players. Since the scholarship reductions are under appeal, they will more than likely be pushed back a year after USC loses imo.

Getting the #1 OL from Ohio allowed us to take 30.
