.40 S&W vs. 9mm

I just got my concealed carry permit here in GA and i'm going to buy a subcompact on Monday or Tuesday. I'm getting the Springfield XD Subcompact 9mm or .40 and can't decide which one to get. I have a 1911 9mm and an H&K USP .40 already but need to get an IWB carry piece. Any suggestions??

My dad and brother-in-law each just bought one of those. Pretty sick handgun.

cc a judge? good luck.
Glock 23 or 19. I would get a G19 and G30 (45) keep out the middle man. But I own a G22 (40) so what am I talking about.
G19 soon to come for me and maybe G30.

I used to own a G23 but I traded it + more money fr the H&K. My dad is a HUGE glock freak but i can't stand them. I hate the grip angles and the way they feel.

I don't think there is much debate in regard to bringing the heat. That being said, the 9 will give you greater capacity and the less snappy recoil might allow faster more accurate follow up shots. It is really a personal preference. I prefer 9 fwiw.

I have to agree with the 9mm on a very small frame. Less recoil and easier to shoot a second round.

With modern ammo the difference between 9 and 40 is mag capacity period.
ETA:
Starting at post #17 on why 9mm vs. .40 is pointless:
New Duty Weapon and Why.
Linkback to Tigerdroppings approved on that site for what it is worth.

Edit:
As long as we're nominating weapons, my favorite 9mm...
My comfort carry ...

How do you figure?
Lot of firearms knowledge there. Also quite a few LA LEOs I've been trying to lure over to this board. If you register list me as referrer and I'll get you approved quickly.

I'd just assume to have the 9mm for already mentioned reasons and the ammo is cheaper.

Another reason why the argument is moot is that if you were forced to use your weapon, you won't be shooting someone just once (at least I know I won't). I'm going to throw as much lead at someone as i can I my life depended on it.
That's also another reason why mag capacity might be important too.

Look at the Colt Night Defender.45.

I've actually been thinking of trading my xd .40 for a 9mm, mostly bc of ammo costs.

FWIW, I personally carry a HK USP Compact in .40 and I'll never carry a 9mm for the following reason: a buddy had to engage a bad guy with his 9mm M9 (in Iraq) and the bad guy would not go down...the velocity of the 9mm was to high so the rounds went right through him. Possibly the fact that we were shooting FMJ ammo and not expandable hollow-points might also have contributed. Additional reason is that i already had a .40 SIG P226 when I was looking for my CC pistol and i wanted to keep the logistics of sustaining my ammo count easier.
I agree that shot placement does count but you've got to practice A LOT in order to get your reflexive fire accuracy very tight. Unfortunately i have found that only the military and law enforcement have the budget to shoot that much (i know i don't).

My friend has the .40 compact you're talking about. It's awesome and recoil is low. It will knock a MF'er over.

The 9mm ammo that will act like a .40 (like CorBon) will kick about like a .40. The 9 just gives you more options for reduced recoil.
