youre forgetting OSU and OU
the Texas Leg has no say on what they do, but this raises a good point, say they block A&M, they can't stop OU, OSU and Mizzo. Nothing to stop them from playing a game every year in Dallas (of course there is nothing to stop that anyway). So they will stop A&M, but wind up with the SEC playing here anyway. Lose, lose and don;t think the Aggies and their powerful backers would forget. Seems like cutting off your nose to spite the Aggies.

,the issue was whether the legislature has a say so,
I was using recruiting as a reason Elected officials with loyaltys to other schools might have reason to object.
youve been implying the have no right to object at all for any reason.
The SEC isn't going to take away recruits away, just because A&M is in the SEC.
The SEC isn't going to take tv $ away from them.
They aren't going to take conference $ away.
The only reason I can see them not wanting A&M to leave would be so that they don't end up in the MWC, WAC, or CUSA. As for SMU, that doesn't even apply.

i agree. I think most people, but espeically people that work in politics and law see everything as a zero sum game, cause that's how politcs and law work. But I really don't see how it would hurt them if A&M went to the SEC. Just because it would be a big gain potentially for both A&M and the SEC, does not mean it would hurt the others, including UT.

you underestimate a politicians willingness to grandstand for the constituency back home
Posted on 1/27/11 at 5:18 pm to OWLFAN86
no, I don't, but most constituencies will have Aggies and plenty of SEC grads as well. While FB fans are vocal, i bet most people do not give a flip. A lot of UT fans I know don't care or want them to go and not let the door hit them on the way out. I'm sure some pols will want something to let the aggies go, but I don;t see why they would stop it. Don't you underestimate the possibilty for paybacks if they do.

again, i was never arguing that the move could NEVER happen ( and to be honest after an email exchange with gravy and a email to my UT contact its more believable ,,maybe even probable)
but Gravy was acting as if there was nothing the Leg could do,, they could do a lot.
but from what I just found out minutes ago from Austin is that UT has gotten the promises it needed
Tech and Baylor will gripe,, someeone will grandstand,, how FAR they take it,
we'll see

I wasn't disagreeing with you that the Leg couldn't stop it or that the Aggies could just do what they want, I just don't see why they would just stop it no matter what. I got the impression from gravy and another aggie i know that a&m had made what ever assurance they needed to.
Sure people will gripe and grandstand, that's pretty much a given

Tech, will raise hell and they are not without their influence,, seniority in the right committees.
we'll see. again if Tech has a fall back plan that they're comfortable with and its in place then they would probably see the writing on the way and move now while they can negotiate something

IMG ESPN details?
And I never said the leg couldn't intervene, just that they weren't this year due to promises and a different set of circumstances

I'm excited to be on this forum. I'm a new member and this is my very first post.
I've read all 12 pages of this thread and I have a few questions for Ball Gravy.
1) You mentioned the timetable of Texas A&M going to the SEC would be much much sooner than June. Does that mean days from now, weeks, months?
2) Does TCU going to the Big East make it easier for A&M to go to the SEC or does the fact that TCU is private make it a bad comparison?
3) Are you still giving the probability of this happening a 9.5 out of 10?
4) Are there any other details about Texas A&M going to the SEC that you can share here?
Thanks
