I always heard the hype about them having the best roast beef poboy.

I will say that it is pretty good. I thought it had a little bit too much cheese on it. gravy had a good flavor. bread was pretty good. it was a sliced roast beef(possibly manda or something) and I prefer a roast that is cooked down till it falls apart like at chris' poboys in lafayette.

overall I give it a 7. not a terrible poboy, definitely above average... but not the greatest either. Oh and I just cant respect a place that doesnt serve fries. wtf is up with that?

my buddy had the bbq brisket ( I think) and said it was the best of that variety that he has ate.

Darells is like Johnny's for the North La folk when it comes to Lake Chuck people. They put it on a pedestal, and get pissed when you down it because it is all they have.

Im not downing it either. I thought it was pretty good. I just think the claims that i have read about it being the best in the state are a little unfounded.

I've never heard anyone talking about the roast beef poboy at Darrell's, FWIW. The Darrell's special is what so many people like. I hope you didn't go there and just get roast beef, huge mistake if so.

Darrell's has very good sandwiches. I wouldn't classify them as a po boy.

to amend my previous post, the Darrell's special must be had with the jalapeno mayo. Don't be a pussy and get regular mayo. Tigerpaw, this is not directed at you

The Darrells poboy is in fact one of the best in the state. It can be a little too salty but more flavor in each bite. He has a new sausage poboy that is the out of this world. It has slices of sausage that are as thin a his meat slices smothered in barbecue sauce. Last time I was in there and I ordered it. Two customers at the bar looked at me like I had three heads. They said "How can you not get the Darrells special?" Once you try the barbecue or sausage poboy, you are hooked

this thread is making me hungry. their food is to DIE for.

I love the grilled shrimp po-boy that oozes with cheese, butter/garlic sauce and mayo.

Any place serving this sort of shite on a poboy is pretty much worthless in my book.

I'm a huge fan of the Darrell's Special. I hate mayo, so I get it without the legendary jalapeno mayo, and still think it's a fantastic po-boy.
