Anyone else think Jefferson can be a Matt Mauck 2003 type of QB next year?

in the sense that...

both had very good mobility and were able to make some fine plays with their feet

both make shitty throws/decisions, but make just few enough of these mistakes so as not to cost LSU games (think the interceptions Mauck threw against OU, pick 6 on the very first play from scrimmage in Oxford, etc.).

Also both of these guys will have a very good running game and surrounding playmakers to rely on (Ware/Ford for Jefferson, and Vincent/Broussard/Addai for Mauck).

Mauck was exponentially better in every aspect of the game other than running the ball
I don't know how people can justify still having hope for JJ after watching him play the past few years

Mauck broke the passing TD record.

no. despite some turnover issues, Mauck's play generally trended up. his accuracy was bad early in 02, but he eventually became pretty reliable.

Jordan's accuracy is spotty at best and for the most part he was way worse last yr than in 09.

to take advantage of the playmakers around him, he has to be able to get them the ball with some consistency, and he hasn't come close to showing that.

No bet Mett could be, a little less mobile but shows great propensity towards quality decision making (see Juco stats).

The only question that I see at this point is how much command over the O he can have by spring camp. he's accustom to a pro set so I think he can be ready.

I don't recall any Mauck dick-sucking prior to 2003. So sure, why not?

I don't mean to overly lionize Mauck or rip on JJ, but my answer is an emphatic "no."

In 2003 MM was 229/358 (64%) for 2825 yards, 28 TD's/14 INT's. He averaged 201 yards per game and had a rating of 148.2. In nearly 600 CAREER attempts, JJ has thrown for, you guessed it, 28 TD's. MM was, quite simply, a better passer than JJ, and I would be very pleasantly surprised to get that kind of production from JJ. Heck, JJ struggles to hit 100 yards per game! Now, if JJ could up his passing numbers to get in this neighborhood and take better care of the ball than MM did, I think we can do really well but I don't see him being a MM "type" QB.

I'll bet anything he'll be more like a Peyton Manning type QB next year.
