Are there any?

No offense but that's not a high end dessert restaurant by any stretch

It is the closest we have. I agree.

Sucre is a pretty hip place. I just wouldn't consider it high end desserts. Their selection of desserts is about on par with whole foods.
Of course they do a great job of making things visually appealing. I'll give them that much.

When I just want a high end dessert, we go to Emeril's or NOLA at the bar and Arnaud's for tableside bananas foster at the bar or in the jazz room.
This only works on slow nights though.
Herbsaint works for this as well.

If you haven't tried the banana crepe at Meauxbar that's pretty good. Almost impossible not to like if you like bananas foster.
I'm a big fan of carrot cake and the one at Coquette is as good as any I've tried. I like it because it's not too heavy on the icing like I think a lot of them are.

I will try that at Meauxbar.
Maurice's carrot cake is one of the best ones I have had. I have issues with soe of their stuff, but the carrot cake is a homerun.

I'll have to check out that carrot cake. On a related note Cafe Dominique in Houma had this dessert once which was really simple but ridiculously awesome. Just a piece of carrot cake paired with some creole cream cheese ice cream. It's a really great combination.

Do such places exist elsewhere? i.e., a "high end restaurant" that does purely desserts. Seems like an odd business concept.

I was thinking the same thing
I'd rather just go to a high end restaurant and try one of their desserts
I'm sure in a large enough city like L.A. or Chicago you could probably exploit that niche

I have had that at a couple of places here...dominique's sister restaurant here is one of them (Martinique)...coquette had it the week they opened and I went as well...great combo.

Charleston had the closest thing to this...it was a sit down place. According to my friend, there is one is st. louis that does tableside dessert and other desserts.

Martinique is the sister restaurant to Cristiano Italian restaurant in Houma.

I don't think Dominique is related in any way. I could be wrong though.

A few people that have posted around here went on a slow night to Stella and had the dessert tasting menu or something like that. I am guessing it would be tough to beat that as far as high end desserts.

you are correct....they did have that dessert pairing though....coquette was the better version though.
Yep...stella! for the win

I'd believe that if for any other reason that the carrot cake by itself is just objectively better

I definitely read an article the other day tying it to another restaurant in Houma. ETA: Not the one you listed though, I think it was also called Dominiques?

Dominique?
They might be somehow affiliated with Cristianio's
I know that a couple of times I called for reservations and they were booked and they claimed that they could arrange to make reservations at Cristiano's.
Dominique is owned by Donna Malbrough. I'm not sure if she is involved in anything else.
