JEEBUS!!
Why is that making UM look bad? He went after a successful, HIGHLY PAID, coach at a national power team and could not get him to leave his loaded team.
Wow......how in the world is that embarrassing? sheeesh
I'd advise you to read what Michigan fans themselves are saying. And don't shoot the messenger.

Then why the refusal? I'm not understanding this. Maybe the bastard actually prefers LSU or maybe he just doesn't feel like rebuilding

does it mean he was low-balled or he just doesn't want to leave LSU? im hoping for the latter

Cheaper than LSU and cheap enough to hire somebody from SDSU instead of a more high profile coach....though Hoke may just be the right hire...

A reliable source has told me that Les Miles did indeed receive an offer from Michigan last night, but it was not good enough to leave Baton Rouge for Ann Arbor. This would contradict reports that Michigan was not really interested in Miles or that Michigan did not make an offer to him.
Whatever you say Tommy K ....
he he he he..

Are their posters any more impressive than LSU's? Because, if NO......hardly a mensa meeting taking place on their boards.
That "fans" get their panties in a bunch is hardly evidence that anything "bunchworthy" has occurred.

Because he made Michigan look bad, particularly to recruits, and settled for a coach with a lesser resume.

BHP, I can see your point, but if you were a big-time Michigan guy who believed UM to be one of, if not THE, premier coaching gigs in the land, then you might tend to presume that you can get WHOMEVER you want to coach. This is what Bama fans (yes, I live here so I can say that) generally think about the Saban hire (epecially the Bammers who still believe they stole our coach).
Rational folks would see your point, I believe... the maize-and-blue-bloods might not. JMO.
ETA: I do not mean to take anything away from Michigan, though... no offense intended.

how can some of you still not understand? They want a MICHIGAN man.
How many elite coaches are out there that are from michigan?
Not very many obviously.

I love having two threads right by each other that contradict each other. It's Chicken v. Brandon.

Is it so hard to understand that they offered les considerably less than what he makes, knowing he would not take it!!!
Why does everyone want to feel like Les is actually wanted somewhere else?

Michigan in fact made an offer. Something significantly lower than his current salary at LSU and with less money for a staff. Miles, as expected, would refuse it, they claim they tried and hire Hoke (the less popular option) having done their "best" to get a big name.
this may be the stupidest fricking thing I've read today
to even think that an accomplished business man would go thru all of the motions for "show" is a disrespect to him, his position and Coach Miles. Grown, professional men do not do that, and I'm sure that didnt transpire here. How much overwhelming respect would Michigan's AD lose?
I think he did in fact make an offer, probably a very fair offer. To make nice in the media, and for public statements, it wouldnt surprise me if the offer wasn't and "official document" or tangible contract on the table. But more likely, "hey look, if we were to offer you X over Y number of years, would you take it? Because that's what I've been authorized to offer you."

I seriously doubt they offered Les near his current LSU salary.
to just assume that it was a "low ball" is absurd. It may have even been more than he makes now. But everyone has a price. Miles probably has a number in his head (like most men), and they didnt hit it. Thanks for you time, good luck, see you at the alumni softball tourney

I'm shocked anybody else wanted him honestly. I think his only suitor just passed before him.

but they aren't claiming they offered it to miles.

I hope we don't find out Les got more money out of LSU and that is why he stayed. The man doesn't deserve the money he is currently getting, heaven forbid he gets more.
With that said, I'd rather Miles than just about any of the possible candidates we were hearing about. If anything this news will almost ensure LSU is ranked in the top 5 to start 2011.
