So what happens if UM doesn't offer les (re: new contract)

does miles have ANY bargaining position for a new deal at that point?
if UM doesn't intend to offer him, and this interview is a charade for the fans (as UM hires hoke), and les is left out there, how can miles honestly demand anything from LSU at that point?
why would alleva even negotiate Miles' contract at this point. he's going to UM if offered, so there is no reason to overextend ourselves (again). then, if UM does NOT offer, LSU/alleva holds all the cards.
if UM doesn't offer miles, there are very few other programs who (1) would hire miles and (2) would pay him close to $3-4M per

They probably offered him a low ball contract, an Alleva just extends Miles contract.

there are some issues i'm sure alleva wants to negotiate. it's more than just years/salary

Well would Alleva know that the interview is a charade?

We return to the bitching that he is here mode.

alleva has no reason to negotiate with miles at this point. only 1 of 2 things can occur
1. UM offers miles, and he goes to UM
2. UM doesn't offer miles, and he stays at LSU
only one variable matters: UM's offer

This whole thing is going to get very tiring. If Miles ever wants to coach at UM, I would rather him do it now rather than deal with this every three or so years for he foreseeable future.

I really don't care about the annual salary as much as I care about the length and total buyout of his contract. Those are the key points. I would love for miles to stay but hope a new contract doesn't completely hold lsu hostage.

I still don't get why people feel Miles going to UM is a done deal if offered. I understand why Saban left a loaded program to try his hand at the pros but I'm not so sure why Les would leave a loaded CFB powerhouse to go to his alma mater flounder CFB former powerhouse.

i am a full believer in the theory that UM hasn't offered and miles' camp leaked that report last night

UM may not offer, that's the funny thing. Supposedly the Schad piece and the waiver of the buyout came from the Miles camp, not UM.

Do you believe their top choice is Hoke over Miles. Or do you think they are giving in to the Lloyd Carr influence?

Ok I guess. Why do you feel that way? Honestly, I feel UM needs Miles more than Miles needs them. Miles already has a superior level CFB job and is LOADED with returning talent.

I think Miles and Brandon reached some sort of agreement and now brandon is making sure everything is kosher in ann arbor.
I don't believe we're in some kind of bidding war or anything. I think LSU has made a fair offer, which gives him a raise but us out of skip's stupid contract from 2007 and Les can take it or leave it.

If Miles has been offered by UM, and turned it down, I hope he's happy with his current contract because LSU has no reason to renegotiate anything.
If Miles turned down UM, he will be at LSU until he retires.

like I said I think the miles camp put the acceptance if offered out there to prevent another sabotage.

Wouldn't they have offered him a contract when he met with them? why would they meet then say ok will be in touch.
Posted on 1/11/11 at 8:14 am to BilJ
yeah brandon still has to sell this to "the board"

The worst thing about all this is Miles has more power to Keep Crowton if he doesn't go to Michigan. I'm really hoping we aren't stuck with Gary next year
