you're missing my point. my point is that this statement isn't true

IF somehow UM doesn't offer les the UM job (which doesn't appear to be the case right now), miles has no leverage to demand anything

You aren't thinking this through. It's in LSU's best interest to modify the contract. LSU wants to modify it for LSU. The incentive is to get out of the terrible contract that it currently has Miles under.

Let's say Michigan is out of the picture all together. It's still in LSU's best interest to modify the deal and get rid of the huge buyout. That will come at some price...most likely a higher salary. That contract rolls over automatically. He's sitting on a 5 year deal again right now. The buyout is prohibitive to making a change if you need to.

If LSU wants to play hardball like you say, Miles and his agent will sit back and say "Ok, we'll keep the contract as is." And, then LSU is stuck the the same predicament that desperately wants to get out of.

The reality is that Miles is willing to rework the deal. He knows it's a bad contract for the school and is willing to work with the school to make it a contract that both parties are happy with. Not every coach would do that. It says a lot about Miles.

But, he's going to get something for doing that.

I think miles is looking for some long term deal. Something that gives him job security. He was on the hot seat this year and probably felt like a red head step child.
