The thing is, BCS bowl games are not technically sponsored by the NCAA. They are privately sponsored so they have no power. Ridley however is ineligible from being on the football team, thats why he can't play. The Ohio State players just can't compete in NCAA competitions. Before you start making accusations, do some fact checking.

"NCAA policy allows suspending withholding penalties for a championship or bowl game if it was reasonable at the time the student-athletes were not aware they were committing violations, "
I'm not arguing the Ridley point, just the suspension postponement because OSU know not what they do. That is weak shite.

Mark May just called those fuukers out.
It was nice to see someone at ESPN call NCAA out of this. The NCAA as a ruling body is a joke.
I agree with May, it were arkansas and not tOSU, you bet they would be sitting them out for the Sugar Bowl.

Crazy talk. What about Aub?
Posted on 12/23/10 at 5:24 pm to San Diego Buckeye
2 wrongs don't make a right. OSU and aub are both guilty.

What about them? They are guilty too but the dollars and the auburn story this year trumped what was right for the NCAA.
My point is tOSU is getting special treatment and I don't believe that if it were Arkansas, they would be getting to play.

This inconsistency has existed for as long as the NCAA has existed. Why now are you getting upset about it?
Posted on 12/23/10 at 5:42 pm to Franktowntiger7
Man what the frick did Auburn do?
People say "You paid Newton", there have been FBI and NCAA investigations and nothing has been found.

Ha! You are being disingenuous if you are honestly saying that there is nothing to the Cam Newton situation.
His dad admitted to the allegations but there were no sanctions levied against Newton or AU. Even though NCAA rules EXPLICITLY prohibit any money, or discussions of money, being passed between a university and an agent of a player. Explain the lax enforcement of NCAA policy in this case...if you don't mind.

I'll be glad too.
Under the wording of the NCAA guidelines, a parent soliciting money without knowledge of the athlete could not be met with sanctions unless the NCAA tried to enforce the "spirit of the rules", such as what occurred in Jeremiah Masoli's case, which as well all know was reversed upon appeal. This was the loophole people referred to.
As stories cleared up gradually between parties involved, the NCAA found that Cecil Newton did try to solicit money from MSU, and Auburn's compliance agreed with their findings and in a cooperative manner they followed protocol in rules violation, with Cam being ruled ineligible for less than a day before the NCAA reinstated him.
The NCAA also found within several phone records and e-mail records that Kenny Rogers had no contact with anyone from Auburn and that every involved party suggested that Auburn had no role in any wrongdoing.
So yeah, what we were looking at was Newton losing eligibility based on solicitation, but the NCAA ruled that wasn't happening based on numerous factors.
Now if you want to criticize the NCAA in the ruling, criticize their stupid freaking rule that allowed such a loophole.

The NCAA had no problem whatsoever suspending several LSU players for the 2003 BCSCG when it was determined they had tried to sell or had sold their SECCG rings.
Hypocrites.
Hypocrites.

First off, that's a lie.
Second, that's like saying....yeah, O.J. was innocent.

However the claim that the NCAA made this ruling about $$$ is not accurate, the NCAA has no role in the college football postseason, does not make a dime from the BCS.
No, you are wrong. While the games may not be run by the NCAA, they are in fact sanctioned by them. Universities cannot play exhibitions for money and gifts (to the players) without sanctioning from the NCAA. If the bowls were free to do as they please, the NCAA would simply sanction the schools involved.
While the NCAA doesn't recognize the champions determined by the systems in the past, it doesn't mean the NCAA isn't involved whatsoever in the bowls. They get tons of money (a percentage of all of them) to use their rights.
Plain and simple.

Of course the LSU students knew what they were doing, seeing as they think us southerners are so sharp.

I wish someone in the media would mention that specific instance because it was a nearly identical situation. Mark May needs to hear about it.
