Add "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" if no one else has mentioned it. I guess it's a drama.

Not sure when it was added, but I just put "Gladiator" in my queue. Not the one with Crowe, but Cuba Gooding Jr....about some underground boxing.

The Larry Sanders Show needs to be made mention in the Television section. One of the greatest shows ever and not a sitcom. One of HBOs originals. Seasons 1-4 available.

Has anyone recommended Near Dark - vampire/horror?

I've always considered it one of the best vamp movies I've seen and I'm not really a vampire type of guy, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Forgive me if it has been mentioned but I'm not reading this entire thread.

Don't remember but I share your thoughts on it. That bar room scene is something else.

Western - My Name Is Nobody (1974)
Doc - Hoop Dreams (1994) think I mentioned this earlier but it's pretty well known so if you don't add it that's fine.
Foreign - 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007) voted one of the best for the 2000's by one of my favorite websites.

Have you seen 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days?

Pretty good flick. Based in 1980's Romania. About a college student helping a friend get an abortion, which was apparantly highly illegal/frowned upon in 80's Romania.
The way the director shot it was pretty different. It was all I could think about the whole film. He doesnt like to switch angles. He would shoot a scene and keep it with that same shot and hold it as long as he possibly could. Almost until he had to change it. I liked it.

Sounds more interesting to me than the subject matter. I mean I don't mind movies with an abortion subplot but I don't know if I'd want to sit through a whole movie dealing with the matter.

Yeah it is very umm... real. It relies on nothing but raw emotion and the situation they are in. Kind of painfully slow at times because of the reality of it. Just an example that wont give anything away: The main character, the best friend who is helping with the abortion, has to leave and go to a dinner she promised her boyfriend. Well some pretty ruff stuff happened right before the abortion. So the dinner scene is her boyfriends family small talking for an easy 10-15 minutes, with the camera fixed in one position (mainly on her) the whole time just so you can see how uninterested she is and upset over what just happened and is trying to cover it up.
Its not for everybody.
