This thread represents the very best of the Rant.

As the story goes, Mac was bringing the team in to the hotel and some Hog fans said "Hey, look they actually showed up".
Mac said he didn't have to say a thing after that to get the team ready.
Great story, hadnt heard that one before. This was the game that hooked me on LSU football for life--still have memories of watching it with my dad and pop. Mainly remember Labruzzo seven straight runs in a row the last was a TD.

I was at the game, and also one of guys who now wishes he had kept that red “21” jersey.
They were "22's" as I recall, a guy in my dorm Freshman year who worked with the equipment people had several and gave me one, it wore out long ago.

How many things from your youth did you discard that you now wish you would have saved in a chest? I know I'm already starting to wish such.

Not so fast, Johnny U. When doing color analyst for an LSU game in '78, Broyles gave great props to Charles Alexander, and said after a long scoring run by #4, "That might just be the run to win him the Heisman Trophy."

LSU spoiled our chance at back-to-back National Championships
That's a nice non-AP or coaches poll national championship y'all have from 1964.

It also changed when the final polls were issued. Prior to 1965, the final polls were issued before the bowl game. Alabama was #1 in the AP poll but lost to Texas in their bowl game (21-17). Arkansas beat Texas earlier that year. Alabama finished 10-1. Arkansas finished 11-0. UPI moved to after the bowl game in 1974.
1964 started the movement toward having a national champion in college football. 50 years later and we are still struggling with it.

Thanks for bringing back a fond memory. I was a Marine in Vietnam and listened to a lot of smack from Razorbacks. One provoked me to offer him a $100 bet; the typical "put up or shut up," deal. He put up, and I was stuck with the bet, realizing my position didn't look all that strong. When the Tigers pulled the upset I enjoyed receiving the C note, but not nearly as much as the silence. Don't recall hearing any more hog calling in Nam afterwards.

My parents and brother along with some friends from Killeen, who I believe got the tickets, went to the game. They always referred to this game when LSU/bowls were talked about.

That's your defense of Broyles? Of course, it's just my opinion but Broyles was rarely favorable in his coverage of LSU.
Regardless, this was a classy post by the Hog who started it and brought back fond memories of a grat game and a classy gentleman, Charles McClendon.
My ex met him at an event. She was a Gator. He introduced himself and told him he always pulled for the SEC and the Gators but his hear was all LSU. "I've spilled a lot of sweat and blood on that field" meaning Tiger Stadium. She told me he was a gentleman in every way.
Oh yeah, Broyles can still bite me!

I may be wrong, but I don't remember Brittenum getting knocked out of that game. I remember either Screen or Stokely getting knocked out for LSU.
Brittenum was out for part of the game - came back in the 4th quarter.

This may get whacked but here's a link to the whole story of the game. Scroll to page 52.

Thanks for posting.
I hope the Hogs keep the SEC bowl win streak against Ohio State going.
